About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- establish and explain how to support and promote diverse children's nutritional needs and the impact of nutrition on health and wellbeing across the early years and the lifespan
- apply discipline knowledge about health, safety and physical development to the holistic development of children
- appraise and evaluate motor skills, teaching strategies and legislative requirements to support a diversity of children (including with disability) with varied growth and development across the early childhood years
- plan, develop, design and assess motor learning programs to maximise children’s motor control and motor learning through movement, exercise and physical activity interventions

- Exploring Physical Development Across the Lifespan
- Exploring Motor Development: Appraising and Evaluating Motor Skills
- Creating Learning Environments: Planning, Designing and Developing Programs

This subject will enable pre-service educators to develop a sound understanding of the importance of supporting the physical, social and emotional health and wellbeing of young children for their development and learning. The subject explores the characteristics of children's physical development and motor coordination. Using a play-based approach to curriculum and safe and supportive environment, students will be able to plan quality fundamental movement experiences to enhance the outcomes for young children in the early years making links to the relevant National and State curriculum and Frameworks.
