Engineering Measurement
About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- apply the principles and conventions of measurement of engineering works and services in both infrastructure and building works
- interpret project drawings and describe the specifications for measuring engineering works and associated services
- produce a bill of quantities for engineering works and services in building works in accordance with industry principles and rules
- Measurement of civil engineering works in infrastructure projects - such as roads, highways, bridges, railways etc.
- Measurement of services in infrastructure works – such as associated mechanical and/or electrical services
- Measurement of services in building projects – such as plumbing services, air-conditioning and communications services
This subject focuses on the principles and conventions of measurement in civil engineering projects (i.e. infrastructure construction projects), as well as the measurement of services in both infrastructure and building works. Students will also utilise and expand their existing knowledge of construction methodologies and technical terms to interpret construction drawings in relation to Australian and international standard methods of measurement.
