The Diploma of Pharmacy Studies is your stepping stone into the Bachelor of Pharmacy. This is the perfect choice if you have not met the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Pharmacy, or would like a more supported entry into University studies. Upon completion of this program, you will meet the maths and chemistry pre-requisites, as well as gaining additional skills to help you succeed at University.This program will prepare you for future study in the Bachelor of Pharmacy, or you can choose to enter the workforce with highly employable skills in roles such as pharmacy assistant or pharmacy technician.You’ll complete a mix of subjects needed to enter the Bachelor of Pharmacy, subjects to develop your study skills and disciplinary subjects taught by the School of Medicine. You’ll also meet the University’s General Entry Requirements when you complete this program, which may allow entry into other university programs.

Diploma of Pharmacy Studies

Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours

Fully online, flexible and self-directed – this program will enable registered pharmacists to diversify and develop advanced skills for a range of advanced practice roles emerging in community and hospital settings.The program focuses on developing in-depth knowledge of Pharmacotherapeutics and capability to enhance best practice pharmacy. The program will support pharmacists conducting medication reviews. The program will enhance the pharmacist’s role as a member of the health care team. It will develop their ability to communicate effectively with other health professionals and patients. It is a first step in the pathway towards a Research Higher Degree.

Graduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy

This program provides students with a broad range of knowledge, skills and resources to practise effectively as a clinical pharmacy practitioner involved in the quality use of medicines and pharmaceutical care. These skills include the capacity to individualise, review and monitor a patient&#39;s medication regimen; demonstrate effective communication skills in clinical and non-clinical scenarios; critically appraise medical and pharmaceutical literature, as well as to recognise and describe social issues relating to medicine use.In addition pharmacists will gain insight into contemporary management strategies for pharmacy and health care as well as explore research and evaluation of pharmacy services and practice.Regular updates of the program integrate emerging clinical evidence and current controversies. A major strength of the program is the emphasis on developing clinical practice and the integration of evidence based medicine.

To meet these challenges, the University of Tasmania, in partnership with major health providers, is launching a more flexible and agile approach to providing educational offerings for health professionals throughout their careers. The Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to expand your contribution to healthcare and meet your continuing professional development requirements with a flexible online approach. In Tasmania ~15% of admissions to medical wards for patients 65 years and older are related to adverse drug reactions (ADRs); almost 90% of these are preventable through better medication management. This specialisation will help you to identify and analyse medication safety issues and provide you with the skills to design and implement solutions to reduce medication related harm in your health care setting.Once you have completed your specialisation you will select a research pathway of your choice.<ul><li>The Capstone Pathway will develop your research skills as you design and conduct a quality improvement project relevant to your workplace and/or career aspirations.</li><li>In the Research Pathway, you will complete a substantial piece of original, independent research, focussed on the topics that are of particular interest, that provides you with a pathway to a Higher Degree by Research.</li></ul>The Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) has been co-designed with major health providers for the health workforce, with content developed to meet the needs of health professionals from all disciplines. Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics in Cardiovascular Diseases

The subject will provide you with advanced knowledge in the pharmacological management of diseases within the context of advanced practice. Advanced Pharmacology & Medication Management

Sports doping is a truly international problem and has a significant impact on today&#39;s society; from cheating, to the politics and ethics of sophisticated doping programs, the enormous bureaucracy and cost of monitoring and prosecuting, along with the impact on an individual&#39;s mental and physical health. Students will recognise drug classes that can enhance athletic performance, and that both doping and detection technologies are constantly evolving, leading to a sports doping arms race between detection and doping which drives newer and ever more sophisticated methods of cheating. The subject begins with an overview of drug classes that are prohibited in sport, their mechanisms of action, effects on performance, and health effects. Students will then learn to appreciate the ethical and legal issues associated with sports doping detection, as well as an introduction into analytical testing methods and processes to ensure sample integrity. The subject incorporates online learning activities consisting of lectures and supportive contextual media, as well as experiential application of internet resources.

Sport Doping, Performance Enhancing Drugs and their Detection

Pulling together the disciplines of sociology, law and complementary medicine, this subject is designed for students who want to understand, debate and critically analyse the use and place of complementary medicines in healthcare today. Learning modules include: understanding the use of complementary medicines in Australia, the question of evidence and the role of ethics and the law in regulating the availability, safety and advertising of complementary medicines. A particular focus is on the ecological and environmental issues that arise from increased use of these products.
