Southern Cross University is renowned for its commitment to Indigenous education. The Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge is an important part of that dedication towards better environmental, social and economic outcomes.The course generates greater understanding of Indigenous world views, by exploring histories, knowledge systems, determinants of health and wellbeing and ways of living, in a culturally diverse and supportive environment. You will build theoretical and practical capability in areas including cultural protocols and Indigenous ways of knowing and being. You&#39;ll learn to engage with communities and work towards better environmental, social and economic outcomes. You can focus your degree with a major in Indigenous Knowledge or choose a shared major from disciplines across the University. Graduates may consider diverse career opportunities in government, commercial or social enterprise, land management, Indigenous tourism, and Aboriginal, family or environmental health.Eligible graduates can also apply for further study through Honours and other postgraduate programs.

Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge

The Bachelor of Arts (OUA) at Macquarie University is a distinctive course that equips its graduates with knowledge and skills that can be applied in any career or in further study. No other course offers as much flexibility and a wide range of study options as the Bachelor of Arts. You will be given the opportunity to turn your passion into a career while developing a strong set of core transferable skills valued by industry and the society. In consultation with industry, the Bachelor of Arts (OUA) places a strong emphasis on skills for success in the 21st century workplace. You will be taught by active researchers, leading academics and award winning teachers.

Make your degree unique and study what interests you. Analyse critically, think creatively and problem-solve at work or in everyday life. Complete foundational studies then tailor your degree with a major. Create a portfolio and build your connections.

Bachelor of Arts

The Undergraduate Certificate in Architecture will enable entry (and credit for the four subjects completed) into the Bachelor of Applied Science (Architectural Science) degree at Curtin.

Undergraduate Certificate in Architecture

The Bachelor of Social Work is an entry-level, professionally accredited qualification to practise as a social worker. This high job growth area offers a variety of careers in client service roles, service management, research, strategy and policy development. The course prepares students to work in a diverse range of fields including health and mental health, child and family welfare, cross-cultural work and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, youth work, homelessness, domestic and family violence, disability, drug and alcohol, community development, and advocacy. Underpinned by core principles of social justice and human rights, the course engages students in contemporary anti-oppressive, decolonised and trauma-informed approaches to social work practice. Core units within the course cover essential theories, methods and skills for social work practice with individuals, families, groups and communities. These are complemented by foundational studies in Indigenous world views, sociology, politics, human development and social research. An elective stream provides opportunity for students to pursue their interests and develop knowledge in a range of disciplines, and an optional embedded Honours program is available for eligible students interested in research and pathways to further postgraduate studies. Note: Eligible students who are interested in undertaking the Honours program should consult the Bachelor of Social Work Course Coordinator prior to enrolling in elective units.

Bachelor of Social Work

Mental health can have a critical impact on the overall wellbeing of employees and the productivity of the workplace. The Graduate Diploma in Workplace Mental Health and Wellbeing gives both employees and employers the knowledge and skills needed to support mental health in any workplace setting. This degree will provide insights into mental health issues, how to recognize signs of mental illness and how to offer appropriate support to individuals and groups in need.

Explore mental health and build counselling skills specifically for the workplace. Consider Indigenous Australian’s holistic perspective. Recognise psychosocial hazards. Help build resilience. Gain confidence to support change and help colleagues in need.

Graduate Diploma in Workplace Mental Health and Wellbeing

This program prepares health professionals from a broad range of backgrounds and disciplines to define, critically assess and resolve public health and nutrition problems. Students can undertake this program in a variety of fields.Students may complete the program entirely by coursework or may incorporate a project, or in certain instances a dissertation. Projects and dissertations may be completed within Australia or overseas. Any expenses incurred in undertaking the dissertation/project are the responsibility of the student.

Choose from six public health specialisations, including health promotion and Indigenous health. Then work on an advanced research project in that field, which could help you influence future policy. Complete an industry placement to further your experience. 

Master of Public Health

This program introduces and consolidates fundamental public health concepts and is designed for health professionals from a broad range of backgrounds and disciplines. Students will define, assess critically and resolve public health and nutrition problems.Limited Summer Semester entry is available to domestic students as elective courses only are offered.

Use this course to upskill for a career in the public health sector, or to pursue a Masters Degree. Learn about core public health practices, and then focus on a specialised field of study like nutrition, Indigenous health or disease prevention.

Graduate Diploma in Public Health

The Diploma of Legal Studies gives you an understanding of the legal system and approaches to legal problem-solving, coupled with the development of legal reasoning, research and communication skills. This understanding and skill-set is valuable across the span of many work and other endeavours, and the Diploma is designed to give you a breadth of exposure in both knowledge and skills development. This includes engaging with legal problems from ethical, social, international and practice perspectives, with scope to choose elective subjects that pique your interests or suit work contexts. The assessable tasks are designed to assist you in learning how to work independently and collaboratively, which means you will acquire valued self-management, people and teamwork skills.

Boost your career with legal knowledge or work towards a law degree. You’ll cover foundational legal principles and choose electives including Antarctic law, Indigenous people and the law, and environmental law. Build legal research and writing skills.

Diploma of Legal Studies

This course is a relaunch of the Master of Sustainability and Climate Policy. It develops knowledge, understanding and appreciation of what it means to live within nature and our planetary boundaries. In a sense, it goes beyond sustainability and has developed out of the recent extinction rebellion and climate strike movements. The resultant Environment and Climate Emergency is increasingly accepted as policy by national, state and local governmental authorities worldwide. The course aligns with Curtin’s strategy of demand-driven research introducing a strong emphasis on research in a master by coursework to address a rapidly diversifying economy reflecting on a competitive job market and changes in students’ interests. To that purpose, the teaching and learning approach seeks to expose students to real-world practice and challenges while favouring familiarisation with industry and local governments’ expectations when hiring graduates. The course will graduate global citizens to affect change.

Study urban design, sustainable cities, leadership, Aboriginal sustainability, decarbonising cities and regions, climate policy and economics. Graduates find careers in sectors where social research and analytical skills in sustainability are required.

Master of Environment and Climate Emergency

The Master of Educational Leadership builds on the capabilities of current and aspiring educational leaders. The course is designed to support participants with varying leadership aspirations and career circumstances. Taught by active researchers and experienced practitioners, this course explicitly integrates theory, theology, ethics, philosophy and research to enable you to improve your educational leadership practice.You will explore the purpose and task of education, and Catholic education in particular, as well as theories of educational leadership, management and administration, and learn to apply them appropriately to your own school culture and context. CSP&#39;s are available for this course.

Working with people often demands sophisticated skills and artfulness and this unit takes seriously the task of coming into a place, listening, learning, and working collaboratively. ART101 is designed to prepare you to “make a difference in the world” in ways that are responsible, creative, and thoughtful. It is designed to support you to continue preparing for life outside of university: in the labour market, in civic life, in families, and as volunteers in initiatives that seek to create sustainable futures for generations that follow.ART101 will support you to prepare for a modern labour market, particularly in industry areas associated with justice, creative work, fairness, cross-cultural dialogue, ecological sustainability, and responsible government, as well as being active citizens, and supporting healthy family relationships and social groups. The learning experiences of this unit also provide further insight into important practices for university and professional life, including writing, thinking, reading, viewing, research, and collaborative work.The unit introduces you to knowledge, ideas and practices that foster clear thinking, relational maturity, ethical strength, and cross-cultural competence. The unit draws on a variety of knowledge traditions, beginning with Noongar katitj (Noongar knowledge systems), particularly in relation to the Murdoch University campus. You will learn by “doing and experiencing” on campus and further afield, and if you are an external student, we bring these experiences to you in virtual ways, as well as giving you tasks and ideas for experiential learning where you are.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Coming Into Community

Focusing on the Pacific as a global centre of Indigenous relationality for Australia, Aotearoa and the numerous Indigenous cultures of the Pacific, this unit introduces students to significant, contemporary Pacific artists, performers, authors, musicians, meme makers and other producers of popular culture. This unit also considers the way Pacific peoples and communities consume and subvert popular culture. Students will engage with Indigenous Pacific collaborations expressing resistance, resurgence and rebellion against colonial representations. Graduates of this unit will be able to demonstrate an understanding of contemporary Indigenous Pacific political creativity and activism.

Pacific Pop Culture

This unit introduces students to Dharug perspectives about Country, spiritual concepts including human and non-human ancestors, and the importance of connecting to place and belonging. Students will learn valuable insights from a diverse group of Dharug community members telling their own stories about sites of significance to them. Students will be introduced to Dharug language, art and other cultural practices demonstrating the continuity of knowledges that Dharug people have maintained for over 65,000 years.This unit allows students to connect with contemporary Dharug people and learn about the impact of colonisation on the community and also better understand how Dharug people and communities have resisted and survived. Dharug people will share stories of importance so students can be more aware of the politics of place.
