This subject is a study of the role of myth in Greek and Roman culture through literary texts and ancient art, including an exploration of the relationship between mythological narratives and religious ritual. This subject also traces developments in the depiction of the gods and heroes as a mirror of social and political change, and addresses the reception of classical myth in later ages.

This unit aims to help history and archaeology students engage with the study of Ancient Greek. No previous language study or knowledge of Ancient Greek is expected. By the end of the unit students should have acquired a developing understanding of the script, grammar and vocabulary and be able to read simple passages in Greek. The unit also encourages development of highly transferable knowledge and skills in the spoken and written expression of English and engages with Machine-Learning tools including generative AI.

Decode the letters, words and language of the ancient Greeks. Familiarise yourself with grammar and vocabulary rules. Recognise Greek script and phonetic structure. Finish with the knowledge needed to read basic ancient Greek passages.

In this subject we continue from &#39;Greek 1&#39; with students learning to handle common interpersonal transactions in Greek with confidence as well as to understand and produce (in speech and writing) simple descriptions, narrations and expressions of attitudes and opinions. Relevant aspects of contemporary Greek society and culture are also introduced. The emphasis continues to be on practice at listening, reading, speaking and writing Greek in everyday situations, but students are also introduced to the structure of the language. Culture is embedded throughout language, so learning another language develops your intercultural communication skills, preparing you to be responsive and agile in varied situations.This is a level 1 subject and includes live sessions with the expectation of student attendance and participation.

In this subject complete beginners acquire practical skills in understanding and expressing basic information, such as personal details, needs, wishes, likes and dislikes in speech and writing. Relevant aspects of contemporary Greek society and culture are also introduced. The emphasis throughout is on practice at listening, reading, speaking and writing Greek in everyday situations, with various audio-visual aids being used. Culture is embedded throughout language, so learning another language develops your intercultural communication skills, preparing you to be responsive and agile in varied situations.This is a level 1 subject and includes live sessions with the expectation of student attendance and participation.

This subject provides an informative and fun introduction to the cultures of Ancient Greece and Rome and where they turn up in the modern world, from Medusa in the Percy Jackson franchise, through to Melbourne’s own version of the Colosseum, the MCG. You will explore the fascinating worlds of Greece and Rome, including the places where their histories, societies and languages have influenced our own culture. You will learn about the worlds of Circe and Socrates, Caesar and Cicero; and discover what we have taken from ancient political structures (&#39;democracy&#39;, &#39;senate&#39;, &#39;fascism&#39;), sport (the Olympics; gladiators), language, philosophy, law, science, medicine, mythology and more.This is a level 1 subject.

Green Marketing is particularly relevant in today&#39;s context of a growing demand for products, services and systems that are environmentally sustainable. In this course you will learn how organisations develop environmentally friendly strategies for product innovation, brand reputation and brand equity. Marketing communication and supply chain issues are also explored, with an emphasis on the concept of more sustainable product life cycles. Students should not enrol in this subject if they have previously completed 3055MKT Green Marketing at Griffith University.

Address why consumers are buying more green products and services. Look to the practical barriers that arise when commercial groups work to be environmentally sustainable.

Explores the nature of environmental crime and its social regulation. The subject has three main topical concerns: First, to investigate the nature of environmental crime from the point of view of legal, ecological and justice perspectives, with an emphasis on how environmental harm is socially constructed. Second, to investigate the nature of regulatory mechanisms and the social control of environmental crime, by considering issues surrounding law enforcement practices, compliance mechanisms, prosecution, and crime prevention as these pertain to the environment. Third, to investigate the nature of the relationship between changes to specific environments and the criminalisation process, with particular reference to the causes and contexts of environmental crime, the social processes that underpin environmental victimisation and how the law is mobilised in relation to conflicts over environmental issuesThe subject provides an overview of contemporary developments in green criminology, and in doing so offers a theoretical understanding of key concepts and debates pertaining to environmental crime, and exposure to concrete case studies relating to the regulation of environmental harm.
