The Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge is an important part of that dedication towards better environmental, social and economic outcomes.The course generates greater understanding of Indigenous world views, by exploring histories, knowledge systems, determinants of health and wellbeing and ways of living, in a culturally diverse and supportive environment. Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge

The Bachelor of Arts (OUA) at Macquarie University is a distinctive course that equips its graduates with knowledge and skills that can be applied in any career or in further study. You will be given the opportunity to turn your passion into a career while developing a strong set of core transferable skills valued by industry and the society. Bachelor of Arts

The Undergraduate Certificate in Teaching Education Studies is designed for people who are interested in pursuing a career in early childhood or primary education and gives the student entry (and credit for the four subjects completed) into the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) or (Primary) degree at Curtin. You will explore the world of child development, the use of technology in the classroom for younger school-aged learners, and explore emerging literacy. This course will also examine some of the issues and trends that impact on teaching and schooling.

Study 4 core subjects in teaching children—and get entry and credit in Curtin’s Bachelor Degree. Topics include language, literacy, and curriculum. Start thinking about your career as a professional early childhood or primary educator.

Undergraduate Certificate in Teaching Education Studies

The Graduate Certificate (TESOL) equips student teachers to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages both in Australia and overseas.This degree assists experienced, practising teachers in their career development by providing them with an additional specialist teaching area. For teachers who wish to add TESOL to their professional repertoire, this Certificate will provide them with a qualification which will allow them to work within the field in their current employment and assist with applications for positions at specialist language centres in Australia and overseas. Student teachers choose four of the five units on offer (see Subjects in this degree). One of these can be a practicum unit (CUR-TESOL505 Language Teaching Practice) which requires student teachers to work alongside an approved mentor teacher in a school or language centre for 10 days with at least 20 hours of supervised and assessed face to face teaching practice within that time. Student teachers hoping to use their Grad Cert TESOL in schools and centres in NSW (and other states where a practicum component is compulsory) should choose the practicum unit (CUR-TESOL505 Language Teaching Practice) alongside the unit Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language Methodologies (CUR-TESOL502) in SP1. CUR-TESOL501 (Materials Design and Assessment) will not be chosen by those wishing to complete a practicum component as CUR-TESOL505 replaces this unit.  PLEASE NOTE: CSP funding has been secured for this Grad Cert TESOLThe Grad Cert TESOL is a pathway to the Curtin MA Applied Linguistics which builds on the knowledge and skills in TESOL developed in the Certificate. Undergraduate Certificate in Architecture

The Bachelor of Social Work is an entry-level, professionally accredited qualification to practise as a social worker. This high job growth area offers a variety of careers in client service roles, service management, research, strategy and policy development. The course prepares students to work in a diverse range of fields including health and mental health, child and family welfare, cross-cultural work and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, youth work, homelessness, domestic and family violence, disability, drug and alcohol, community development, and advocacy. Underpinned by core principles of social justice and human rights, the course engages students in contemporary anti-oppressive, decolonised and trauma-informed approaches to social work practice. Core units within the course cover essential theories, methods and skills for social work practice with individuals, families, groups and communities. These are complemented by foundational studies in Indigenous world views, sociology, politics, human development and social research. An elective stream provides opportunity for students to pursue their interests and develop knowledge in a range of disciplines, and an optional embedded Honours program is available for eligible students interested in research and pathways to further postgraduate studies. Note: Eligible students who are interested in undertaking the Honours program should consult the Bachelor of Social Work Course Coordinator prior to enrolling in elective units.

Continuing Gamilaraay

Speaking Gamilaraay 1

Students are invited to explore the contemporary situation of language in Aboriginal Australia, contextualised in its various social settings, along with a strong emphasis on First Voice. This includes a focus on the languages of Victoria and language revitalisation, as well as new varieties of Aboriginal language such as Kriol. The subject provides students with the opportunity to reflect on understandings of language and culture, continuity and changes in the face of disruption, and on their connection with the local environment and its people.

This subject is a practical introduction to Gamilaraay, an Indigenous Australian language. It is designed to develop basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills at an introductory level, and to develop a knowledge and understanding of the relationship between language culture and society in the community of the speakers. No previous knowledge of Aboriginal languages is needed.

Gamilaraay is an Indigenous Australian language from the mid-northwest of NSW that is currently undergoing revitalisation. This unit of study will provide students who have completed Speaking Gamilaraay 1 with increased competence in reading, writing, understanding and speaking Gamilaraay. They will be able to recognise and construct more complex utterances in the language. They will study a number of texts in Gamilaraay and in other Aboriginal languages, particularly the closely related Yuwaalaraay, and look at some material in the more distantly related Wangaaybuwan, a language with considerably better records than Gamilaraay Yuwaalaraay [GY] They will also study derivational processes in Gamilaraay, and continue to develop Gamilaraay resources.This is a fast paced academic course at a University level.
