The Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science is targeted at students who already have a degree in a different discipline, and would like a bachelors-degree equivalent in psychology. The Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science will allow students to develop foundational skills in core psychology subjects such as research, cognitive psychology, biological psychology, assessment and intervention, developmental psychology, social psychology and personality. Successful completion of the Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science will allow students to meet the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) requirements for entry to the 4th year Honours program in psychology, which is required to apply for the clinical and professional coursework Masters programs.Whilst applicants who complete the Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science may have achieved a grade point average to enable application to the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) program, an offer is not guaranteed due to a limited amount of places available. Applications will be ranked by academic merit.Students seeking admission to this program will need to pass a competency exam administered online through Canvas, demonstrating knowledge of first year psychology.This program is accredited with the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).

The Master of Clinical Psychology (Post registration) is a one-year program that provide Australia Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) approved sixth-year training in psychology. This program focuses on the development of APAC Level 4 professional competencies for specialization in Clinical Psychology. It is designed for individuals who have (i) completed an APAC Accredited Masters coursework degree in Psychology, (ii) general registrations as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, and (iii) a minimum of 12 months of professional applied experience post-graduation. Graduates of this program will be eligible to apply for the Clinical Psychology registrar program to obtain an area of practice endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. This program is comprised of 8 coursework units (10 credit points each) which is predominantly taught online. Delivery of these units will involve a single 4-day residential (on campus teaching block) and 500 hours of supervised clinical placement that students can choose to complete in one location.

TAS-CNA739 introduces you to psychological therapies used in mental health settings, either as stand-alone interventions or in combination with pharmacological interventions. You will have the opportunity to explore factors relevant to the experience of mental health, as well as a range of psychological interventions that can be implemented in therapeutic engagement with individuals in clinical and professional settings. You will be introduced to the core principles and skills of therapeutic modalities relevant to mental health care and addictions treatment, developing knowledge through a range of online learning activities.

Psychological Therapies in Mental Health Care

This subject provides you with an introduction to behavioural economics. Behavioural economics is a discipline at the intersection of economics and psychology that draws on insights and methods from the social sciences to understand better how people actually make decisions. The aim of this subject is not to be mathematically or theoretically thorough. Rather, it focuses on developing a better understanding of how human psychology affects our decisions and how such knowledge can be applied to real world business and policy issues, including to the nudge agenda. You will also be exposed to methods of enquiry used in behavioural economics, in particular, economic experiments and randomised controlled trials, their real-world applications and the insights they generate. You will develop knowledge and skills to design and conduct such experiments and trials as well as to evaluate newly designed business strategies, public policies and nudge interventions.

Behavioural Economics

This subject examines the relationship between mental disorder and criminal offending. The subject aims to increase students&#39; knowledge and understanding of models of criminal behaviour and mental disorders, and the potential interaction between the two. The subject aims to develop in students a critical appreciation of the issues involved in defining both mental disorder and criminality, and an evidence-based understanding of the extent to which criminal behaviour is caused by mental disorder. The subject also addresses specific mental disorders, in the context of their potential relationship with criminal offending. The subject aims to develop students&#39; knowledge and critical thinking skills applicable in a forensic mental health setting.Assessment details will be advised at the beginning of the subject offering.

Investigate the legal constructs of insanity and the psychiatric constructs of intellectual disability and mental disorders. Evaluate the relationship between crime, dangerousness and mental disorders in the context of forensic mental health.

This subject examines the areas in which the criminal justice system and psychological theories of behaviour interact. Topics include the reliability of eyewitness testimony, truthfulness and credibility of witnesses, questioning child victims of sexual assault, the social dynamics of juries and the role of expert testimony.
In this subject, we study the roles of various actors that interact in the courtroom, such as judges, juries, expert witnesses, eyewitnesses, victims and defendants.null; The subject introduces interdisciplinary literatures: criminology, law and society/socio-legal studies, and psychology.null; Topics include the social dynamics of juries, judicial discretion, the validity of forensic science and the role of expert testimony, the reliability of eyewitness testimony, an examination of mental health courts and indigenous justice, and the prevalence of wrongful convictions.
