This subject provides some powerful tools for understanding how economies work. It introduces the concepts and methods of experimental and behavioural economics; models of economic growth, business cycles, and financial crises; macroeconomic indicators of economic growth, unemployment, and inflation; and tools to understand and evaluate monetary, fiscal, and other economic policies. Economics affects everything in our lives—what we earn, how we work, where we learn, what we consume, how much we waste; the list goes on. An understanding of economics is critical in an uncertain world, where market forces have such a significant influence on our lives. Any student undertaking a course in commerce or business at the undergraduate level requires an understanding of economics—how people make decisions (rational or otherwise), economic policy, challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on global economic recovery and decent work progress, sustainable economic growth and productivity, climate change dilemmas and so on. Strive to understand how economists look at the world, then apply their approach to problems both big and small. Review economic theories, the GDP and the rules of supply and demand. Get a bird’s eye view of the global economic markets.

This subject was previously known as Internet Commerce and Consumers.
The Internet has fundamentally reshaped the global economy, and with it our experiences as workers and consumers. In this subject, you will come to understand the dynamics of the digital economy, including the importance of platforms, networks, attention, and growth. You will also explore alternative economic models facilitated by the Internet, such as the gift economy. This subject will provide you with a nuanced perspective on how the economy has changed over recent decades, why it matters, and what might happen next.

Learn to understand the dynamics of the digital economy, including the importance of platforms, networks, attention, and growth. Explore alternative economic forms, such as peer-to-peer and gift economies.

This subject explores how key business disciplines are connected. Students will develop an understanding of market types, and how business and marketing strategies can create value and impact upon society and the environment. Students will also develop an understanding of the relationship between a business enterprise and various stakeholders, including government, customers and the broader community. Markets and Legal Frameworks

This subject will provide an insight into the global food situation and the challenge to increase food production given the contexts of population growth and increased competition over access to resources. A range of topics will be examined through case studies from Australia, its region and worldwide. The subject recognises and appreciates diverse Indigenous knowledges, perspectives, cultures and histories of food and food security. Review the status of the global food situation. Study supply chains and aid. Catalogue the challenges complicating food production efforts in the face of population growth. Weigh this against the environmental concerns threatening water availability.

Geographies of Food Security

This subject introduces mathematical concepts relevant to business and economic applications. The subject begins with a review of foundational concepts in algebra, progressing to elementary calculus used in applications of constrained and unconstrained optimisation.
