Our river basins or catchments have been progressively transformed over time. We&#39;ve built cities, we&#39;ve cleared land for food production and this has had profound consequences for our catchments.With this specialist degree you&#39;ll learn to combine and use scientific, engineering and economic knowledge to planning ways to protect, restore and rehabilitate our catchments. You&#39;ll develop the leading edge knowledge and skills needed to make a difference in this rapidly developing area of professional practice. The Master of Catchment Science is the only catchment-dedicated postgraduate degree in the world. Hosted by the International WaterCentre and developed and delivered in collaboration with Griffith University.

Master of Catchment Science

This course provides students with skills and experience in bioinformatics, focusing on omics science, computer programming, applied mathematics and statistics. It provides work experience in relevant organisations within the industry, allowing students to gain an understanding of the application of bioinformatics in a real world context. It also focuses on practical skills for researchers and industry professionals in bioinformatics, and offers flexible study options through on-campus and online study.

The subject will provide an overview of the concepts and principles of sustainable waste management. A critical approach to theories, techniques and methods of sustainable waste and resource management will be introduced in the course to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding on waste management. The subject will cover the subject areas of perceptions of waste, classification and characterization of waste, waste audit, 3R principles, waste collection, transportation, treatment technologies and safe disposal, performance evaluation, and strategy and policy regulation. In addition, the subject will cover the emerging concept of waste management such as ‘zero-waste’ in the context of circular economy.Please Note: If it’s your first time studying a Curtin University subject you’ll need to complete their compulsory ‘Academic Integrity Program’. Sustainable Waste Management

This subject gives students an understanding of the functional purpose of the machinery systems used on board a variety of ships. This knowledge can then be applied to obtaining effective engineering design solutions for these systems, so that they can meet their functional purposes within national and international statutory and regulatory frameworks.

Design of Marine Machinery Systems

This subject equips students with a knowledge of vessel hull forms, hydrostatic concepts and parameters, introduces the concepts of ship behaviour in waves and the process of evaluating the seakeeping characteristics of a vessel, and phases within the design process. The subject builds upon prior undergraduate engineering knowledge to develop the conceptual and analytical skills necessary at a detailed level of ship design with a particular emphasis required for initial parameter estimates.
