Rehabilitation counsellors are allied health professionals who work within a counselling and case management framework to assist people who are experiencing disability, a health condition or social disadvantage to participate in employment or education, or to live independently and access services in the community. In this program you will gain the knowledge and skills needed to work as a rehabilitation counsellor in government, insurance, workers compensation and motor accident rehabilitation, disability employment services, the National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS), the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) (or equivalent internationally), and private and not-for-profit rehabilitation services.You will learn about vocational evaluation, job placement, injury management, disability studies, applied counselling and research methods. You will also undertake a supervised practicum placement, which will give you the opportunity to apply theory to practice.Additionally, you will complete a supervised dissertation or choose from elective courses in areas such as workplace health and safety, mental health, entrepreneurial and negotiation skills, disability and ageing studies. This will allow you to complete specialist courses and research relevant to your interests in a particular area of rehabilitation counselling practice.

Work as a rehabilitation counsellor, perhaps in government, insurance, private or not-for-profit rehabilitation services. Put your theory into practice through fieldwork, and applied counselling and research methods.

This subject provides students with detailed knowledge of how food processing and preservation impact on individual food components and the opportunity to translate their nutrition knowledge into a food product. Through a series of activities, students will critically examine the processes involved in producing foods for human consumption from raw ingredients, highlighting food production and processing techniques that bring about changes to the biological, chemical, physical and nutritional state of the food. Students will work in groups and use user-centred design techniques to design or re-design a food product ready for sale in line with the Food Standards Code.

Applied Research In Nutrition

In this subject students continue to engage with their professional practice project. Skills pertaining to the gathering, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of findings will be developed to a high standard. Students will provide a written and verbal research progress report and a final report in the format of a journal article for publication. The student will work with the course coordinator to publish key findings in peer reviewed journal articles.

In this course students will independently design and develop a workplace based project that meets ethical requirements. Students will be supported by the course coordinator as they engage in a review of the subject literature to support project design, implementation strategies and evaluation. Students will learn how to use academic writing to support their proposal development embedded with related theory and professional practice.

You will be introduced to a range of topics such as chemical analysis, phases of matter, acid-base chemistry, biologically important molecules, and biochemical reactions. During workshops you will use selected techniques to monitor, measure, and analyse, key parameters that are applicable to a broad range of applied and industry contexts. You will apply your learning to industry-based problems, explore potential solutions, and learn to communicate them effectively.

This subject is designed to provide an accessible and practical introduction to microbiology. In this subject, you will acquire and apply knowledge of microbiology principles and techniques as relevant to applied or industry contexts. You will be introduced to key microbiology concepts, such as the impact of microorganisms, microbial characteristics and interactions, microbial-risk management, microbiological technologies, and emerging microbiological opportunities, as relevant to a range of applications and scenarios.Through a laboratory workshop, you will gain practical knowledge and insight into microbiology techniques. You will develop technical observation skills, and also select, explore, and communicate specific microbiological techniques, including their relative advantages and disadvantages for different applied contexts. You will build on this approach to assess and communicate real-world microbiology challenges through different perspectives.

This subject provides you with a solid foundation in biology, equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers in various biology-related fields or to continue with academic studies in further biology-focused subjects. The subject fosters critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and extends your understanding using hands-on activities. We will then study algebra with indices, logarithms and trigonometry. The concept of sequences and series will be introduced through arithmetic and geometric progressions. The subject will conclude with studies of probability and statistics. We look at dependent and independent events, conditional probability and probability tables. We will also discuss permutations and combinations. Finally, we will investigate collecting data, presenting categorical and discrete data, data distributions and correlations between variables.
