By setting visions and policies for building and land use, planning professionals play a significant role in creating these spaces.This subject provides an introduction to the language and processes of planning in relation to land use and built form. Different land-use and development situations will be explored, including how they interact with broader societal contexts.This will provide a deeper understanding of planning practice, and its real-world influence.

Planning for Land Use and Built Form

Plans are vital instruments in urban and regional planning. They envisage the future of a local environment and shape land use and development practice.Making plans requires a diverse skill set, including site analysis, data analysis, mapping, plan drawing, and code writing. In this subject you will be introduced to these skills through a wide variety of practical exercises.As the subject progresses, you will develop an understanding of how these practical skills help build towards an integrated plan. At the end of the subject, you will understand how graphical communication, data analysis, site investigation, and built form analysis contribute to planning work.

Professional Practice in Urban and Regional Planning 1

Learn to interpret the Development Act and Regulations to building, planning and environmental controls within the practice of building surveying and planning. This course explores the South Australian development approval process and looks at the legislative framework that governs the process. Gain an understanding of the approval authorities, the regulation of building work, the planning appeal process, enforcement&#39;s, and the analysis and interpretation of a council development plan, and the National Construction Code. UniSA Online’s 10-week short courses give you the flexibility to up-skill in a certain area, stay current with developments in your field, diversify your knowledge, or even explore a new direction in your career – without having to commit to the time and cost of a full university degree.  This is a third-year course from UniSA Online’s Construction Management degrees.
