Education Support is essential to educational access and equity, particularly for children and adults who may have distinct learning difficulties, lack confidence or motivation in learning, or who might otherwise be disengaged or marginalised from conventional educational systems or practices.The Undergraduate Certificate in Education Support provides a foundational understanding of educational practices for Teacher Aides, School Support Officers, and Home Schooling parents. You&#39;ll develop problem-solving, communication and critical thinking skills relevant to many education careers, especially in a classroom setting as Integration Aides, Teacher Aides, and School Support Officers. Undergraduate Certificate in Education Support

The Associate Degree in Education Support is a two-year program intended to provide an educational qualification for a range of education support roles including Teacher Aides, Integration Aides, School Support Officers and Home-Schooling parents.This program values the critical role that Education Support workers play in enabling learners to overcome their barriers to learning success. As a distinctive profession in its own right, Education Support is critical to the provision of educational access and equity, particularly for children and adults who may have distinct learning difficulties, lack confidence or motivation in learning, or who might otherwise be disengaged or marginalised from conventional educational systems or practices.The program is informed by core theoretical knowledge and evidence-based practice in learning support. It is underpinned by a strong research-practice nexus and is guided by our Faculty’s commitment to social justice as a core value for the work that educators and education support workers do. By experiencing a curriculum that values access and equity, and embeds inclusive education practices as well as attention to social and emotional learning, our students come to recognise that positive relationships with self, others, cultures and place are critical to learning success.By working with partners to provide work-integrated learning opportunities, we guide and mentor our students to embark on personally and professionally fulfilling learning pathways as they develop:<ul><li>an empathic, critically reflective and global perspective;</li><li>a collaborative and contextual approach;</li><li>the capacity to work effectively in highly diverse contexts;</li><li>the capacity to be creative and resilient practitioners, and lifelong learners.</li></ul>We engage with students at all stages of their journey toward becoming confident education support workers capable of making a real difference to people’s lives.

Technology for Inclusion

This subject provides a range of strategies to cater for students with diverse needs in learning mathematics. The learning needs may include: difficulties directly related to the learning of mathematics, such as dyscalculia; difficulties that are not directly related to mathematics, such as literacy obstacles; or other learning differences, such as those which stem from cultural differences or exceptionality. The range of students also includes those who are gifted in learning mathematics. The subject is based on two justifiable premises: first, that all students are able to engage successfully with an appropriately challenging mathematics curriculum but may do so in different ways; and second, that teachers have a responsibility to provide high quality learning experiences, supported by pedagogical reasoning, to all students.

Inclusive Mathematics

This subject focuses on the theories behind student disengagement and takes a solution focused approach towards re-engagement practices. By the end of this subject, you will have developed a comprehensive understanding of the risk factors that lead to student disengagement, the consequences of disengagement and early school leaving, and the use of data for identification and designing interventions.

Supporting Disengaged Students

The subject will explore the theoretical and practical issues concerned with establishing and maintaining positive learning environments that allow all students to participate fully in educational opportunities. The subject will explore preventive strategies to establish a positive classroom climate in all education settings; corrective strategies to respond to disruptive behaviours in order to maintain a focus on learning; and supportive strategies to address the higher level needs of individual students including discipline/crisis/emergency response for disruptive student behaviour. The content will be studied through an interactive learning process including case studies, role play and rehearsal of appropriate language and non-verbal responses, to link theory and practice in class and individual management situations. Students will develop a Classroom Management Plan to be evaluated, refined and further developed through their later practicum experiences.

Planning for Positive Behaviour

This subject explores the relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous, histories perspectives and cultures. It encourages you to develop an ethical position grounded in critical reflection which will enable you to identify and challenge racial and social injustices in education and more broadly through practice and pedagogy.The subject has four foci which are integrated: history, culture, curriculum, and pedagogy. It considers these foci as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, non-Indigenous peoples, educators, administrators, and policy makers. In doing so, it provides you with both a theoretical and practical grounding from which to develop your skills as a transformative educator capable of fostering restorative justice and reconciliation both within and through education.
