This subject was previously known as Imagining Health in Social and Cultural Contexts.An introduction to sociological and anthropological perspectives on health, wellbeing illness and disability in society; understanding the contribution of the biomedical and social models of health for transdisciplinary practice for nurses and allied health: professionals. Incorporating contemporary, historical, social and cultural perspectives in local and global contexts to identify social determinants of health. Understanding traditional healing and other healing practices within a diverse community to cultural safe, secure and competent care, which is necessary to build individual and community empowerment. Recognising the impact of gender, sexuality, disability, migration, being a refugee, internally displaced person or member of any marginalised population on health. In this subject students will engage with critical race theory and the history of Western expansion through concepts of colonialism, modernity and globalisation. Students will investigate key texts in literature, film and theory to explore the distribution of political and economic power in the specific places in the world throughout history. Decolonising Place

This subject examines key concepts, approaches and debates in the study of gender and sexuality, with a focus on analysing the representation of gender and sexuality in a range of literary and cultural texts. Recent theoretical developments are explored in the context of pioneering work in second- and third-wave feminism, psychoanalysis and queer theory. This subject explores general ideas and critical concepts that form the foundations of cultural studies. The subject develops ideas about culture, texts, and modes of power and production. An overview of culture and its relationship to society, power, and identity. You’ll think about how culture is produced, consumed, and interpreted. Delve into readings to explore social and historical contexts. Open your mind to the complexity of culture.

This subject explores different textual representations of the future in terms of the questions they raise about the world today. From science fiction and dystopian classics, through futurology and trends forecasting, to climate change narratives and extinction studies, students will engage with a variety of texts and discourses engaging in the question of the future. Textual Futures

This subject was previously known as Internet and Everyday Life.
For many people, everyday life now involves constant interaction with the Internet via digitally networked platforms and devices. As cyberspace and real space come together, it can be easy to miss the impacts of the Internet on us and on our society and culture. Students will explore how their own experiences and ‘everyday Internet’ may be different from others, and the implications of this for studying digital culture. Through specific topics such as entertainment, politics, sex, and relationships students will analyse digital culture conceptually, towards better understanding how technology and society are intertwined.
