Healthcare delivery is constantly evolving in the face of population growth, our increasingly diverse and aging communities, changing approaches to delivering healthcare and availability of new technology. Health professionals need to be more collaborative, team-focussed and adaptable than ever before. To meet these challenges, the University of Tasmania, in partnership with major health providers, is launching a more flexible and agile approach to providing educational offerings for health professionals throughout their careers. The Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to expand your contribution to healthcare and meet your continuing professional development requirements with a flexible online approach. The course has been developed with health industry partners and features a strong inter-disciplinary approach, drawing on content from a broad range of disciplines across the University of Tasmania, with an emphasis on providing you with the flexibility to choose content that best progresses your career ambitions.The program will provide you with a strong foundation in leadership skills and critical thinking, helping you to analyse and resolve the complex problems that you face in the health system. You can then choose from a curated selection of subjects, expanding your knowledge in fields including epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, health service innovation, health informatics and digital health.Become a more effective people leader.The effective management of human resources is becoming an increasingly vital concern in organisations, whether they are professional practices employing only a few staff, multinational corporations, public sector or not-for-profit organisations. The impact of globalisation, increased competition for talented employees, skills shortages and changing expectations of the employment relationship pose increasingly complex challenges for all organisations. The Workplace Psychology specialisation introduces the concept of positive psychology into leadership practices and principles. You will critically explore the theories, constructs and models within positive psychology, and how they can be integrated into the workplace environment. On completing the Workplace Psychology specialisation, you will be familiar with positive psychology concepts, be able to discuss these concepts critically, and be able to review the potential of positive psychology principles in terms of your own working relationships and leadership practice. You will have the potential to draw on a positive psychology perspective in your approach to your work to make you a more effective leader in health and human services.Once you have completed your specialisation you will select a research pathway of your choice.<ul><li>The Capstone Pathway will develop your research skills as you design and conduct a quality improvement project relevant to your workplace and/or career aspirations.</li><li>In the Research Pathway, you will complete a substantial piece of original, independent research, focussed on the topics that are of particular interest, that provides you with a pathway to a Higher Degree by Research.</li></ul>The Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) has been co-designed with major health providers for the health workforce, with content developed to meet the needs of health professionals from all disciplines. TAS-CNA739 introduces you to psychological therapies used in mental health settings, either as stand-alone interventions or in combination with pharmacological interventions. You will have the opportunity to explore factors relevant to the experience of mental health, as well as a range of psychological interventions that can be implemented in therapeutic engagement with individuals in clinical and professional settings. You will be introduced to the core principles and skills of therapeutic modalities relevant to mental health care and addictions treatment, developing knowledge through a range of online learning activities.

Psychological Therapies in Mental Health Care

This subject provides you with an introduction to behavioural economics. Behavioural economics is a discipline at the intersection of economics and psychology that draws on insights and methods from the social sciences to understand better how people actually make decisions. The aim of this subject is not to be mathematically or theoretically thorough. Rather, it focuses on developing a better understanding of how human psychology affects our decisions and how such knowledge can be applied to real world business and policy issues, including to the nudge agenda. You will also be exposed to methods of enquiry used in behavioural economics, in particular, economic experiments and randomised controlled trials, their real-world applications and the insights they generate. You will develop knowledge and skills to design and conduct such experiments and trials as well as to evaluate newly designed business strategies, public policies and nudge interventions.
