To meet these challenges, the University of Tasmania, in partnership with major health providers, is launching a more flexible and agile approach to providing educational offerings for health professionals throughout their careers. The Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to expand your contribution to healthcare and meet your continuing professional development requirements with a flexible online approach. The course has been developed with health industry partners and features a strong inter-disciplinary approach, drawing on content from a broad range of disciplines across the University of Tasmania, with an emphasis on providing you with the flexibility to choose content that best progresses your career ambitions.The program will provide you with a strong foundation in leadership skills and critical thinking, helping you to analyse and resolve the complex problems that you face in the health system. You can then choose from a curated selection of subjects, expanding your knowledge in fields including epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, health service innovation, health informatics and digital health.Become a leading voice for change. Across government, corporate and community health agencies, there is increasing awareness of the need for skilled communicators. The Strategic Communication specialisation is designed to develop your professional knowledge and practical skills and provide you with a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving digital and media environment. The Strategic Communication specialisation is taught by leading academic staff in our Media School and practitioners who are active in local industry. You will benefit from their broad range of experience as they train you in using state-of-the-art technologies.  The Strategic Communication specialisation aims to produce independent and entrepreneurial communicators. Designed for those wanting to promote and implement change within their organisation, this specialisation helps you to develop advanced analytical skills and professional-level communication expertise. You will develop knowledge of the strategic and political communication fields and media industries and produce and engage with traditional and emergent media platforms and practices.Once you have completed your specialisation you will select a research pathway of your choice.<ul><li>The Capstone Pathway will develop your research skills as you design and conduct a quality improvement project relevant to your workplace and/or career aspirations.</li><li>In the Research Pathway, you will complete a substantial piece of original, independent research, focussed on the topics that are of particular interest, that provides you with a pathway to a Higher Degree by Research.</li></ul>The Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) has been co-designed with major health providers for the health workforce, with content developed to meet the needs of health professionals from all disciplines. This subject does not only introduce a critical reading of heritage, it offers tools and frameworks for participants to reflect and be cognisant of the challenges of presenting the past, and address difficult challenges in offering heritage to the community and to tourists. Being sensitive and balanced is necessary but what that means is contested. By addressing difficult issues, this subject provides guidance on how to create, formulate and mediate exciting and meaningful heritage experiences.

Critical and Contested Issues in Cultural Heritage

This subject equips you with the skills to produce content and tell stories across a range of media. A variety of digital tools, delivery options and conceptual approaches will be explored as you design, research and produce their content. Academic and technical staff will guide you through the production of journalism, public relations, or creative content suitable for delivery online, and as broadcast and print. Through the subject, you will be expected to develop skills in research, writing, online publication and audio and visual production.

Multiplatform Storytelling

Science communication has an increasingly vital role to play in a modern, global society. The growing awareness of the threat of climate change, along with the unprecedented impact of COVID-19, has highlighted the importance of the effective communication of science. This subject explores the social, political and ethical implications of science communication in a global society, and will consider: science in the media, science and public policy, science and advocacy, and public engagement with science. You will identify, apply and evaluate science communication strategies for diverse audiences using a range of media and technologies. The subject includes a non-compulsory field trip.

Communicating Science

In this work integrated learning subject, you will work with industry partners for no less than 80 hours (10 days) to gain workplace experience in the creative industries. At the end of this subject, you will have a portfolio of creative work undertaken while on placement. You are required to arrange an internship in consultation with the Subject Coordinator before semester, and no later than week 1, before being eligible to enrol.

Professional Placement

In Tasmania, our vibrant arts and cultural calendar includes MOFO and Dark MOFO, Ten Days on the Island, and Beaker Street. In this subject, you will learn about the role of festivals, open days, street fairs and other events in contemporary civic life and how they contribute to the culture and economy of towns and cities around the world. From concept to producing a fully-costed proposal, you will develop a detailed understanding of the professional activities required to plan and execute an event, including budgeting, programming and promotion. This subject includes a non-compulsory field trip.

The ability to strategically communicate is a skill required in many industries and sectors. In this subject, you are introduced to a variety of media platforms and approaches to provide a strong foundation for participation in the media and communication industries. You will be introduced to key trends and changes in contemporary media practices, technologies, business models and audience behaviours. A fundamental appreciation of key concepts in media writing will enable you to think strategically about content creation, information gathering and audience engagement, which will equip you to write and pitch a story to a relevant publication. You will gain a deeper understanding of how strategic communication can drive change in a variety of contexts while acquiring important practical skills in professional communication, information management, media engagement and publicity.

Recent global events and a dynamic media landscape have highlighted the importance of public relations (PR) practitioners as a central component of contemporary strategic communications practice. This subject will develop your understanding of historical, theoretical, and practical approaches to public relations management and strategy. You will be able to apply these concepts and principles to your public relations practice, through the design, implementation and evaluation of a public relations strategy. This subject will equip you with the skills to interact professionally with senior executives, media and other stakeholders.

Digital and social media play an increasing role in the contemporary media landscape. In this subject you will develop your knowledge of key concepts, principles, and practices to understand how digital and social media inform a strategic communication environment. The focus of this subject is on developing your knowledge and ability to creatively plan, effectively implement, and critically evaluate the performance of various social media strategies. You will also gain practical skills in digital content creation for various platforms.

Strategic Digital Media

Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) covers the general area of marketing communications with a focus on advertising and promotion at an advanced level. IMC rests upon the management of media and other tools which can be used to deliver marketing messages in an effective and integrated way, while achieving marketing, communications and broader organisational objectives.The subject focuses on an approach to marketing communications that considers how the integration of messages can achieve greatest impact, primarily through the coordinated use of a range of marketing communication tools. In this regard, the subject looks at the creation, selection and execution of consistent marketing messages for an organisation to communicate across its various communication and marketing platforms. An IMC approach considers the strategic use of a range of traditional media, as well as digital and social media. The subject content is placed in the context of more general IMC issues faced by organisations of all sizes including branding, planning, budgeting, coordination and delivery messages, and media management. Students will find that an advanced understanding the complexities of IMC and its various aspects will stand them in good stead for being able to make effective marketing and general business decisions.
