In this subject, you will learn the core principles of sensors and sensor networks, investigating how these technologies are generating revolutionary scale change across many industries. You will acquire practical skills via simulation based learning for sensor deployment, sensor technology solutions aligned with industrial objectives, and sensor networks capable of transferring real-time data to external systems. Students will obtain the knowledge and skills needed to fulfil industry standards and solve authentic challenges in sensor network design through case studies and simulation based activities. Sensors and Sensor Networks

Quality management focuses on the quality of physical products as well as services and processes, and how they can be improved. The principles and processes of quality management are the key elements that businesses use to respond to market and customers’ needs and maintain business viability through improved efficiency, product quality and safety, and improvement of service delivery. Quality management is comprised of the four key components of quality planning, quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement. You will explore these four components and how they impact on issues such as customer focus, customer value, continuous improvement, process improvement and total quality management.

Quality Management

This subject will provide you with an understanding of how organisations manage the supply chain and logistics processes associated with manufactured and purchased goods, ensuring the successful flow of materials between organisations, external suppliers and customers. The logistics aspects and methodologies you will be exposed to include manufacturing demand planning, inventory and stock control, packaging, warehousing, distribution networks, transportation, value chains and managing supplier relationships. You will also consider how current and future use of technologies and automated processes in the logistics environment can be utilised to achieve logistics and supply chain improvements for the organisation.

This subject provides you with a broad appreciation of the nature and importance of logistics activities, and introduces you to the most important concepts, principles, tools, and analytical skills used by logistics managers. It enables you to understand the key components of an integrated logistics system, such as procurement, inventory management, transport, warehousing, and customer services, whilst viewing the system synergistically. Central to an integrated logistics system is the customers: by studying the trade-offs between customer services and costs discussed in this subject, you will be able to contribute positively to the logistics management activities in any organisation.

It introduces the maritime industry’s history, maritime geography and the concept of maritime transport in facilitating international trade. This subject covers various maritime sectors such as shipping, shipbuilding, repairs and maintenance, ports, offshore energy, maritime tourism, maritime governance and defence and Law enforcement. Finally, key contemporary issues related to the maritime industry are addressed.

The aim of this subject is to examine the processes, functions and strategies required by organisations to acquire goods, services and equipment from other organisations. The subject covers three broad dimensions of the procurement function within organisations. Firstly, the subject familiarises you with the procurement processes employed by organisations in both the public and private sectors. Secondly, the subject discusses strategic decision-making in a range of procurement-related issues that have a direct impact on how an organisation operates. Thirdly, the subject examines the supplier-related tasks of purchasing professionals, including supplier selection and management.

This subject provides an opportunity to investigate contemporary topics of interest in global logistics and maritime management. Students are required to undertake research and present findings on specific topics relevant to management in the maritime and logistics sector. This subject builds students’ skills of surveying literature and research communication. It firstly requires students to review and evaluate the literature in logistics and maritime management relevant to their research topic to understand what is already researched and to justify their research questions and methods. Secondly, students are required to expose to up to date research presentations by attending research seminars hosted by AMC and other faculties within the University. Seminars related to their discipline areas should be prioritised. Students are able to develop their research communication skills by engaging with and evaluating those research presentations that will help the presentation of research proposal for their dissertation project.
