In this subject, you will learn the core principles of sensors and sensor networks, investigating how these technologies are generating revolutionary scale change across many industries. You will acquire practical skills via simulation based learning for sensor deployment, sensor technology solutions aligned with industrial objectives, and sensor networks capable of transferring real-time data to external systems. Students will obtain the knowledge and skills needed to fulfil industry standards and solve authentic challenges in sensor network design through case studies and simulation based activities. Sensors and Sensor Networks

Quality management focuses on the quality of physical products as well as services and processes, and how they can be improved. The principles and processes of quality management are the key elements that businesses use to respond to market and customers’ needs and maintain business viability through improved efficiency, product quality and safety, and improvement of service delivery. Quality management is comprised of the four key components of quality planning, quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement. You will explore these four components and how they impact on issues such as customer focus, customer value, continuous improvement, process improvement and total quality management.

Quality Management

This subject will provide you with an understanding of how organisations manage the supply chain and logistics processes associated with manufactured and purchased goods, ensuring the successful flow of materials between organisations, external suppliers and customers. The logistics aspects and methodologies you will be exposed to include manufacturing demand planning, inventory and stock control, packaging, warehousing, distribution networks, transportation, value chains and managing supplier relationships. You will also consider how current and future use of technologies and automated processes in the logistics environment can be utilised to achieve logistics and supply chain improvements for the organisation.

This subject provides you with a broad appreciation of the nature and importance of logistics activities, and introduces you to the most important concepts, principles, tools, and analytical skills used by logistics managers. It enables you to understand the key components of an integrated logistics system, such as procurement, inventory management, transport, warehousing, and customer services, whilst viewing the system synergistically. Central to an integrated logistics system is the customers: by studying the trade-offs between customer services and costs discussed in this subject, you will be able to contribute positively to the logistics management activities in any organisation.

This subject provides an applied approach to the key components of integrated logistics systems, such as procurement, inventory management and transport, whilst also viewing the system holistically. The strategic focus of the subject enables analysis of impacts on logistics activities including disruptive forces such as geopolitical issues and the effect and adoption of emerging technologies. The necessity of the centrality of the customer to effective and efficient logistics operations is an important feature of this subject, as is the decision-making when trade-offs are required between customer service and costs.

Business Logistics

This subject provides students with a good understanding of individual sectors in the maritime industry. It introduces the maritime industry’s history, maritime geography and the concept of maritime transport in facilitating international trade. This subject covers various maritime sectors such as shipping, shipbuilding, repairs and maintenance, ports, offshore energy, maritime tourism, maritime governance and defence and Law enforcement. Finally, key contemporary issues related to the maritime industry are addressed.

Technology-enabled supply chains are becoming increasingly effective, efficient, and transparent. In the future scenario of smart supply chains, a supply chain in the real world will be simulated by its digital twin deployed in a cloud computing platform. Real-time data in factories, warehouses, and transport vehicles will be collected and processed by Internet of Things (IOT) devices, and then sent to the supply chain’s digital twin. The data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) models behind the digital twin will analyse the data, simulate the supply chain processes in the real word, and help us to make informed decisions for supply chain management, such as inventory control and redeployment for supply chain disruptions, dynamic management of suppliers, and fast responses to customers’ complaints. In this subject you will learn how to model and design smart supply chains to enable data driven decision making, optimisation of operations, and adaptation to changing market conditions. Using authentic case studies and practical digital tools, you will develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to identify problems in the smart supply chains and develop practical solutions to address these problems.

Supply Chain Analytics And Digitalisation

This course will provide students with a detailed understanding of the nature, process, coordination and management of business logistics in achieving sustainable business outcomes. Current issues considered include: warehousing and packaging, transport and its management, supply network designing for material/service/information flows; performance measurement and the engagement with external logistics service providers, logistics in a carbon constrained environment; scheduling in transport and service industries, and redesigning material and service flows in supply chains/networks. International Business Logistics

The aim of this subject is to examine the processes, functions and strategies required by organisations to acquire goods, services and equipment from other organisations. The subject covers three broad dimensions of the procurement function within organisations. Firstly, the subject familiarises you with the procurement processes employed by organisations in both the public and private sectors. Secondly, the subject discusses strategic decision-making in a range of procurement-related issues that have a direct impact on how an organisation operates. Thirdly, the subject examines the supplier-related tasks of purchasing professionals, including supplier selection and management.

This subject introduces students to the best management practices for dealing with the ship-shore interface and will provide the skills and knowledge necessary to assume an operations management role. Topics covered include: the role of port authorities and legislative matters; the regulations and codes governing vessel operations within a port; Harbour Master&#39;s powers and Harbour Master&#39;s Directions; the technical aspects of port operations, including mooring, berthing and anchoring operations, cargo handling equipment and storage, handling and transfer of various cargo types; environmental and safety aspects of port operations.
