Healthcare delivery is constantly evolving in the face of population growth, our increasingly diverse and aging communities, changing approaches to delivering healthcare and availability of new technology. Health professionals need to be more collaborative, team-focused and adaptable than ever before. To meet these challenges, the University of Tasmania, in partnership with major health providers, is launching a more flexible and agile approach to providing educational offerings for health professionals throughout their careers.The Graduate Diploma of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to expand your contribution to healthcare and meet your continuing professional development requirements with a flexible online approach. The program has been developed with health industry partners and features a strong inter-disciplinary approach, drawing on content from a broad range of disciplines across the University of Tasmania, with an emphasis on providing you with the flexibility to choose content that best progresses your career ambitions.You will build a strong foundation in leadership skills and critical thinking, helping you to analyse and resolve the complex problems that you face in the health system. You can then choose from a curated selection of subjects expanding your knowledge in fields including epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, health service innovation, health informatics and digital health.The program is open to anyone with a health-related bachelor degree, or a bachelor degree in an unrelated area with at least two years&#39; experience in the health workforce. If you already have a health-related Graduate Certificate, you may be eligible for advanced standing into the course to enable you to progress directly to the specialisation component of the degree.Advanced Practice specialisations are designed to develop graduates who can demonstrate leadership and perform independently in the healthcare system. Each specialisation provides the knowledge and skills for students to make evidence informed decisions in their chosen area to meet industry needs and workforce demands.The Digital Health specialisation develops skills and knowledge for a person-centred approach to digital transformations and improvements in the health system. It will prepare you to examine health information systems in relation to their capacity and efficiency to collect, store, retrieve, analyse, and utilise healthcare information for a variety of purposes with a goal of realising high quality, safe and efficient care. You will learn to critically analyse challenges and generate solutions associated with the introduction and use of digital health systems and technologies.Subjects in this specialisation are developed in collaboration with industry to reflect industry practices and to develop graduates to meet workforce demands. Graduates will be able to apply critical, technical, and creative skills to making ethical and social decisions and judgements in complex health service management settings. This subject explores the need for knowledge to be managed in an organisation, and the tools and strategies that can be used to effectively manage the knowledge assets of that organisation. The subject starts with the identification of knowledge assets in an organisation, followed by knowledge capture and codification in order for knowledge to be shared and integrated into the organisational level. The subject then explores topics on individual and organisational learning and how learning can be encouraged and facilitated. Obstacles to knowledge transfer are identified together with an examination of the role of organisational culture in facilitating knowledge sharing. The subject also explains the formation of knowledge management (KM) strategies and the need to have a KM team. Measurement of KM effectiveness and legal and ethical issues of KM are dealt with in the last two modules. The focus of the subject is on the maritime and logistics industry and the challenges and obstacles associated with knowledge management in such a globalised industry.

Knowledge Management

In this subject you will examine the development, implementation, and maintenance of health care systems and explore systems theory as it applies to health information systems. You will analyse the life cycle of a health information system, including strategic and tactical information, planning and project management, and the impact on the organisation of each phase of the life cycle. You will evaluate both technical (infrastructure, hardware &amp; software, Standards &amp; Codes) and people issues (education &amp; skill development, changes to roles) which need to be resolved in the process of implementing a successful health information system. You will also explore the role and impact of the informatics professional and the informatics/IT department within the health organisation.

Health Information Systems

This subject explores the evolution of the electronic health record (EHR). It examines the definition and context of the EHR, records management, the benefits and barriers of EHRs, the national health information agenda, the EHR as a socio-technical tool, ethical considerations, and the future of EHRs.

Electronic Health Records

With the explosion of technology and data in health, the field of health informatics is growing. This subject will evaluate the field of health informatics as a discipline within the health system, and appraise key principles and theories. The foundational elements of data, information, knowledge and wisdom are assessed within the healthcare context. Applicable standards and governance are introduced. This subject provides the foundation for ongoing exploration of health informatics.
