Game Design Introduction

Note: If you study this subject in Winter, the subject will be a shorter duration (5 weeks) and will require at least 20 hours of study per week.Data analytics is present in every moment of our lives. Smartphones, smart cars, smart fridges. Netflix, Stan, Amazon, and Facebook. Strava and Nike providing feedback on your current workout. FlyBuys, Qantas Frequent Flyers, and Woolworths Rewards. At the heart of comprehensive data collection and analysis is a desire and quest to understand ‘everything’, and this unit invites students into every layer of this data-driven world. MSP202 teaches students how to clean, manipulate, and transform data into creative visualisations using Microsoft Excel to tell a story for invested stakeholders. Students examine the impact of data analytics in the context of their career and the world of work more broadly, including the spheres of marketing and communications, journalism, the creative arts, sport, health, and education, grounding practical skills in a social context and reinforcing the how and why of data analysis. We explore ethical issues relating to data surveillance, the positive and negative implications of data mining on human behaviour, and the analytics machines central to the functioning of Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Uber. The unit offers students the skills to engage with data with an awareness of ethical considerations, and the capacity to manipulate that data to make sense of it for invested stakeholders, telling a story that has the capacity to change the world.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Work with data and see the impact you can have on everyday life. From collection to analysis, you’ll explore how data tells stories, informs decisions, and influences human behaviour. Get creative with visualisation. Get ethical with your approaches. 

The Search for Everything: data Analytics and Storytelling in the 21st Century

This subject provides an introduction to database design, implementation and management. Topics include data modelling, the relational model, SQL, logical and physical database design, database application design, transaction management, concurrency, recovery, security, database architectures and database administration. Databases

This unit focuses on mobile application development using mobile development techniques and environments. Mobile Applications Development

This subject was previously known as User Interface Design.This subject focuses on providing an understanding of interface and interaction design especially for game and simulation systems.Murdoch University students should also note that Human-computer Interaction ( ICT325) is considered academically equivalent and therefore you should not enrol in this subject if you have successfully completed ICT325.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Games User Experience and  Interface Design

This subject focuses on the theories, techniques and tools for designing, constructing and producing interactive 3D visualisation systems including computer games, interactive modelling software, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality software. Besides focusing on the theories, techniques and tools, the unit will cover additional topics such as budgeting, design documentation, evaluation, group dynamics, project management, team roles and responsibilities. Using industry standard design and development tools, students will apply the theoretical aspects of this subject to create games and virtual/augmented reality applications in a team environment.Murdoch University students should also note that Games Software Production (ICT245) is considered academically equivalent and therefore you should not enrol in this subject if you have successfully completed ICT245.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Virtual Realities and Games Software Production

This unit aims to provide a general understanding of software development frameworks, and the practical experience and skills in using an important software development framework, with an emphasis on language interoperability, platform independence and software reuse using Microsoft .NET Framework.Murdoch University students should also note that Software Development Frameworks (ICT239) is considered academically equivalent and therefore you should not enrol in this subject if you have successfully completed ICT239.Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Software Development Frameworks

This unit aims to give students a general background of virtual realities (augmented, mixed and virtual) and game software design to create something fun and entertaining. It addresses elements and issues of design concepts, creation and plays in computer, video and VR games. Topics include character design, creative play, core mechanics, design documentation, design process environment, game-balancing, player motivation, user interfaces, and virtual realities. Virtual Realities and Games Software Design

This subject introduces methods and techniques for analysing problematic organisational situations, particularly those leading to the development of an information system, and draws on both technical and organisational material to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to design and implement an operational system.
