Tackle the fundamentals of programming – from data structures to programming language and testing methodologies. Learn to create algorithms and use sequence, selection and iteration to solve problems.

Foundations of Programming

At the heart of comprehensive data collection and analysis is a desire and quest to understand ‘everything’, and this unit invites students into every layer of this data-driven world. MSP202 teaches students how to clean, manipulate, and transform data into creative visualisations using Microsoft Excel to tell a story for invested stakeholders. Students examine the impact of data analytics in the context of their career and the world of work more broadly, including the spheres of marketing and communications, journalism, the creative arts, sport, health, and education, grounding practical skills in a social context and reinforcing the how and why of data analysis. We explore ethical issues relating to data surveillance, the positive and negative implications of data mining on human behaviour, and the analytics machines central to the functioning of Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Uber. The Search for Everything: data Analytics and Storytelling in the 21st Century

This subject introduces fundamental games art and design production concepts and processes, providing students with basic knowledge in concept art, game engine evaluation, game play, storyboarding,and basic workflow standards. Students are also introduced to games as a wider cultural and philosophical phenomena.

Go behind the scenes of game development. Cover the skills needed to work in the field, the culture of the industry, and theory behind it. Hone skills to craft game art and apply them to your own game project – considering principles of design.

Introduction to Games Art and Design

This subject introduces the fundamentals of computer graphics, animation, audio and video; essential for digital content development for computer and video games, and eXtended Reality [XR] (Virtual [VR], Augmented [AR], Mixed [MR]) applications. Tools and techniques used for creation of visual and audio information are introduced. Become a magician of the moving image as you learn to create, manipulate and transform visual and audio. Understand bitmap and vector graphics, 2D and 3D geometry, manipulation of 3D graphics, processing computer graphics, shading and more.

Introduction to 3D Graphics and Animation

This subject provides an introduction to database design, implementation and management. Topics include data modelling, the relational model, SQL, logical and physical database design, database application design, transaction management, concurrency, recovery, security, database architectures and database administration. This unit focuses on mobile application development using mobile development techniques and environments. Mobile Applications Development

User Interface Design

This subject focuses on the theories, techniques and tools for designing, constructing and producing interactive 3D visualisation systems including computer games, interactive modelling software, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality software. Besides focusing on the theories, techniques and tools, the unit will cover additional topics such as budgeting, design documentation, evaluation, group dynamics, project management, team roles and responsibilities. Virtual Realities and Games Software Production

Software Development Frameworks

This unit aims to give students a general background of virtual realities (augmented, mixed and virtual) and game software design to create something fun and entertaining. It addresses elements and issues of design concepts, creation and plays in computer, video and VR games. Topics include character design, creative play, core mechanics, design documentation, design process environment, game-balancing, player motivation, user interfaces, and virtual realities.
