Bachelor of Interior Design

This program replaces both the Bachelor of Arts (Interior Architecture) and the Bachelor of Applied Science (Interior Architecture).Interior designers, as qualified professionals in Interior Architecture, design quality environments for a diverse range of users and functions. They coordinate the design and construction of building interiors including commercial, workplace, hospitality, medical, gallery, and retail environments. In addition, interior designers may be involved with more transient environments and the associated displays for trade fairs, exhibitions, museums, and public events. Their skills and knowledge are also utilised for adaptive reuse of existing buildings and conservation of significant sites. Interior designers require skills and understanding in all aspects of design, including technical knowledge of interior construction, equipment and building systems. They must also exercise ability in communication and administrative skills. The degree also provides a sound basis for more specialised careers and study in areas such as furniture or set design, education and/or research.In order to complete this program, students are also required to complete at least 80 hours&#39; work experience in the industry before graduation.Once you have been admitted to the program, you will choose a Specialisation (or Minor) in a discipline area complementary to Interior Architecture. You can select from one of the following specialisations:<ul><li>Construction Management - Develop an understanding of the principles and processes surrounding building construction and management, specifically focusing on low and high rise construction, building surveying and construction contracts.</li><li>Planning and Geography - Learn about key concepts and approaches for understanding cities as cultural landscapes, including urban and regional planning principles, governance, social geographies of cities, geographical analysis, and spatial experience at an urban scale.</li><li>Animation and Game Architecture - Learn the fundamentals of animation and game design, such as techniques for 3D modelling and animation, development of creative and compelling visuals, and the use of motion graphics and game related technologies. This specialisation connects closely with architectural presentation techniques and the creation of inspiring built environments.</li><li>Digital Design Specialisation - Ideal for people who are interested in gaining fundamental skills and knowledge in Web and UX Design. This specialisation can boost students&#39; employability by developing digital design problem solving skills and deepening understanding of how to create engaging digital experiences.</li><li>Architectural Technology Specialisation - Designed exclusively for Interior Architecture or Interior Design students, develops understanding of the built fabric and structures surrounding the interior including sustainability practices, building science and digital fabrication.</li></ul>Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications. Furniture Design

This subject was previously known as Technology of Design.This subject is an introduction to architectural technologies including structural systems and principles, building materials, construction techniques and environmental design and decarbonisation concerns in buildings. This subject was previously known as BIA270 Interior Architecture Contexts.This interdisciplinary subject explores and debates significant art and design movements across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in the broader context of significant world events affecting social, political, technological, and economical developments, including indigenous perspectives. Travel back through the artistic and design movements of the 20th and 21st centuries. Be inspired by the Bauhaus design aesthetic, Gordon Matta-Clark’s work and the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Trace their influence through to today’s work.

The designer&#39;s use and application of computer modelling are extended in this subject for the purposes of digital production and manufacture. Parametric Solid modelling software CAD is further used and applied to create form, interface, and instructions for digital fabrication. The required application of technical communication to Australian and international standards is established. Low-fidelity physical modelling techniques studied include object printing, laser engraving and profile shaping. Design and Built Environment Research Methods

Under the direction of a supervisor, students are offered a stimulative environment, which incorporates a breadth of practice and academic experiences relevant to the discipline of Interior Architecture. Each student will initiate and develop an individual project aimed at enhancing their design expertise. Core theory, technological strategies, and/or practices continue to be interrogated at an advanced level. Students are required to appropriately structure their research strategies in relation to the evolution of their particular topic, deploying appropriate methodologies and methods. Interior Architecture Honours Proposal

This innovative subject examines narratives of occupation, of use, and of making, as embedded in designed products that constitute the interior. Through a series of explorations and testings, students use technology to create a prototype object that has purpose and feasibility for the design industry. Emphasis is placed upon future-thinking and finding simple ways to communicate narratives of construction, use, and occupation. This subject is designed to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of a career in design practice that extends to the transdisciplinary nature of interior design professional practice. Students investigate the role of the interior designer within the complexities of a project and what it means to collaborate professionally with consultants, suppliers and clients. A range of guest speakers will share expertise and practice experiences from a number of perspectives including practice management, law, contracts and specifications presenting various insights into the workplace culture. Interior Architecture Practice

This subject was previously known as Interior Design Studio 1 - City.An introduction to the world of designing – the act and the outcomes with an emphasis on the domain of the ‘interior’ and its creation through design. The subject introduces the discipline of Interior Architecture and the role of the Interior Architect as a practitioner with particular attitudes and beliefs. Community settings within the city are explored as the context of the interior: the city as cultural artefact, its conditions, its histories and spaces.
