Australian Aboriginal Art

This subject investigates culture, communication and representation. We examine the complexity of culture and our engagement with other cultures and culturally diverse thinking and perspectives. As part of this, we explore Indigenous cultures, histories, knowledge, perspectives and values. The unit also explores the relationship between media and culture, critically analysing media representations that inform our ideas about particular topics, other cultures and people. Understanding traditional healing and other healing practices within a diverse community to cultural safe, secure and competent care, which is necessary to build individual and community empowerment. Recognising the impact of gender, sexuality, disability, migration, being a refugee, internally displaced person or member of any marginalised population on health. Decolonising Place

This subject was previously known as Classic Texts.This subject explores the complex relation between culture, historical context and modes of representation. Through studying a range of cultural texts, it will consider why and how different narrative forms and generic conventions in fiction and non-fiction narrative emerge, endure and transform across time and space. Fundamentals of Academic Writing

This subject examines the relationship between language and culture and explores the different varieties of language and dialects, as well as the various styles and registers that can exist within any one language. The subject explores theories of language and language learning, including transcultural communication, to enhance the ability and confidence of teachers to work successfully in culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms. Specific reference will be made to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and dialects as well as people learning English as an additional language.

This subject was previously known as Beginning Japanese. This subject introduces basic communicative skills in Japanese at an elementary level. Students acquire the four essential language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing characters (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji) through ample practice in communicative activities supported by digital technology.
