In this subject you will examine contemporary remuneration and performance management practices from theoretical and applied perspectives. You will focus on debates about moves away from &#39;traditional&#39; position-based pay towards performance-related remuneration. You are encouraged to consider the relationships between reward systems and employee participation and their impacts on organisational performance at individual and group levels. This subject is built on research as well as real-life examples to explore issues in pay, performance management, motivation, strategy, fairness and organisational effectiveness. The subject provides you with the critical and analytical tools to evaluate the merits of diverse performance and reward management systems in modern business organisations.

The pace and volume of organisational change is drawing increasing attention to the ways that human resource development (HRD) activities can ensure that organisation members have what it takes to successfully meet these challenges. In this subject you will focus on an integrated and strategic approach to HRD which fosters a long-term, work-related learning capacity. You will examine the foundational concepts of HRD (including the theory of learning) and the HRD process from theoretical and practical perspectives. You will also examine HRD applications within modern business organisations including skills, and technical training, coaching, career management and, organisational development.

In this subject, you will examine the relationship between human resource management and organisational strategy and analyse the impact of high-performance work systems on employee attitudes and behaviours, and organisational performance. You will explore the impact of HR practices and initiatives on various employee-related metrics as well as organisational performance and will learn how to make data-driven decisions for strategically managing your organization&#39;s workforce. You will learn how to analyse and interpret qualitative and quantitative employee-related data to solve complex HR issues with new strategic proficiencies and develop an understanding of how HR analytics contributes to a more successful performance of HR’s strategic role.

Recruitment and selection practices are fundamental function of Human Resource Management. The ability to attract and secure a pool of high-quality talent within the organisation is crucial to meeting the organisation’s strategic goals and securing a sustainable competitive advantage. In this subject, you will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to design, build, implement and evaluate an effective recruitment and selection process. You will also explore the ethical and legal principles which govern recruitment and selection in Australia. You will also learn how to design and implement and effective job analysis and evaluation, to assist in determining the employee qualities that employers are looking for to perform the job in question.
