The program has been developed with health industry partners and features a strong inter-disciplinary approach, drawing on content from a broad range of disciplines across the University of Tasmania, with an emphasis on providing you with the flexibility to choose content that best progresses your career ambitions.You will build a strong foundation in leadership skills and critical thinking, helping you to analyse and resolve the complex problems that you face in the health system. You can then choose from a curated selection of subjects expanding your knowledge in fields including epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, health service innovation, health informatics and digital health.The program is open to anyone with a health-related bachelor degree, or a bachelor degree in an unrelated area with at least two years&#39; experience in the health workforce. If you already have a health-related Graduate Certificate, you may be eligible for advanced standing into the course to enable you to progress directly to the specialisation component of the degree.Advanced Practice specialisations are designed to develop graduates who can demonstrate leadership and perform independently in the healthcare system. This subject introduces you to effective professional communication techniques and practices applicable to the workplace and study. You will learn about the foundations of communication, the various communication styles, professional etiquette, and different types of communication behaviours. A central focus of this subject is for you to understand your own style, and gain an awareness of how you communicate and how others might feel based on how you behave and interact.In addition, you will explore a range of barriers and enablers to effective communication, and develop strategies such as active listening, conflict resolution, and giving and receiving feedback. You will practice, and be assessed on, effective communication in groups and in a simulated environment. This will include participation in role plays, interviewing others, presenting ideas, and completing various group and individual activities. In conjunction with the discipline theory, this unit introduces learning through practice by exposing you to authentic learning experiences. These experiences are placed at the centre of learning and assessment, so you have the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary to respond to industry, community and/or global needs. You will be introduced to:- a range of methods, tools, techniques and approaches to practice- principles and perspectives such as values, ethics, empathy and leadership in real world scenarios- reflection and deliberative thinking as a means of developing knowledge, skills, attitudes and aspirations- ways of understanding problems and developing solutions through active inquiry. Professional Communication

In this subject, you are provided the opportunity to employ skills developed across a range of University Preparation subjects to complete a guided research project. Using techniques in research, analysis, problem-solving, reflection, and academic communication, you will investigate a topic of your choosing, undertake academic investigation of the key issues or challenges involved and, finally, produce an evidence-based analysis and argument expressing your perspective. The research and writing skills developed and practised in this subject apply to a diverse range of disciplinary environments, from the humanities to the sciences.

UPP Project A

Language is what makes us human. It influences our thoughts and affects our lives in even more ways that we might expect. In this advanced subject, students are introduced to the most important and strongly debated issues in the psychology of language. Lecture topics include the distinctive features of human language as a system of communication, language structure, acquisition and development, the understanding and production of speech (and what happens when these processes go wrong), the development of reading and spelling, and how the social and cultural environment can influence how language is used.

Psychology of Language

Students can develop the fundamental written and verbal communication skills necessary for effective communication in both business careers and academic studies in this subject. As such, the focus of it is two-fold; firstly, developing your personal communication skills and secondly, also giving you a better understanding of the significant role of international business communication in the workplace.

Science communication has an increasingly vital role to play in a modern, global society. The growing awareness of the threat of climate change, along with the unprecedented impact of COVID-19, has highlighted the importance of the effective communication of science. This subject explores the social, political and ethical implications of science communication in a global society, and will consider: science in the media, science and public policy, science and advocacy, and public engagement with science. You will identify, apply and evaluate science communication strategies for diverse audiences using a range of media and technologies. The subject includes a non-compulsory field trip.

In this subject, you are introduced to a variety of media platforms and approaches to provide a strong foundation for participation in the media and communication industries. You will be introduced to key trends and changes in contemporary media practices, technologies, business models and audience behaviours. Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) covers the general area of marketing communications with a focus on advertising and promotion at an advanced level. IMC rests upon the management of media and other tools which can be used to deliver marketing messages in an effective and integrated way, while achieving marketing, communications and broader organisational objectives.The subject focuses on an approach to marketing communications that considers how the integration of messages can achieve greatest impact, primarily through the coordinated use of a range of marketing communication tools. In this regard, the subject looks at the creation, selection and execution of consistent marketing messages for an organisation to communicate across its various communication and marketing platforms. An IMC approach considers the strategic use of a range of traditional media, as well as digital and social media. The subject content is placed in the context of more general IMC issues faced by organisations of all sizes including branding, planning, budgeting, coordination and delivery messages, and media management. Students will find that an advanced understanding the complexities of IMC and its various aspects will stand them in good stead for being able to make effective marketing and general business decisions.
