Business Open Degree Pathway

The Undergraduate Certificate in Climate Accounting is designed to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to navigate the complex issues of accounting for climate change in businesses.In this program, you’ll gain an understanding of the science of climate change and learn how to analyse the climate policy environment. You&#39;ll also learn about the emerging field of climate accounting, which is quickly becoming a key global response strategy for achieving the 2030 carbon emissions goals and net zero carbon by 2050.You&#39;ll gain hands-on experience collecting and measuring carbon impact using data analytics. You&#39;ll learn how to use this information to inform business decisions-making and to report to internal and external stakeholders. By the end of this program, you’ll be prepared to lead sustainable business practices that draw on contemporary accounting theory and practice.

This subject introduces the foundations of risk analysis, risk management, and contingency planning at an organisational level. The subject explores the foundations of risk across many industries and disciplines, examining the risk analysis process, contingency planning, business continuity and disaster recovery. By exploring the implications of current incidents in areas such as security, manufacturing, transportation, construction, and primary and secondary industries, you will gain insight into strategic and tactical decision making to avoid harm.

Risk and Security Management

In this subject, you will learn the core principles of sensors and sensor networks, investigating how these technologies are generating revolutionary scale change across many industries. You will acquire practical skills via simulation based learning for sensor deployment, sensor technology solutions aligned with industrial objectives, and sensor networks capable of transferring real-time data to external systems. Students will obtain the knowledge and skills needed to fulfil industry standards and solve authentic challenges in sensor network design through case studies and simulation based activities. You will develop self-awareness, initiative, and judgement while developing know how of Industry 4.0 and its potential to enhance decision making with near real time data, and drive efficiencies and innovation in industries at any scale.

Sensors and Sensor Networks

Quality management focuses on the quality of physical products as well as services and processes, and how they can be improved. The principles and processes of quality management are the key elements that businesses use to respond to market and customers’ needs and maintain business viability through improved efficiency, product quality and safety, and improvement of service delivery. Quality management is comprised of the four key components of quality planning, quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement. You will explore these four components and how they impact on issues such as customer focus, customer value, continuous improvement, process improvement and total quality management.

Quality Management

In this subject you will be introduced to the regulatory environment in which applied science enterprises operate. In particular, you will explore the regulatory challenges of product safety, biosecurity and environment protection, as well as business practices inherent in product development, manufacture and commercialisation. You will gain familiarity with various bodies (including local, state and federal government) that regulate applied science enterprises, learn how various tools including Australian and international standards support regulatory compliance by business, and apply your knowledge to explore questions of compliance in work-based scenarios.

Regulatory Challenges

This subject explores how different cultural understandings and models influence and shape how we interpret the world around us, perceive ourselves and relate to other people. You will build your cultural capability (knowledge, skills and attitudes) through self-awareness and reflection on the values, behaviours, beliefs and world views of yourself and others. The subject is underpinned by the cultural knowledge, lived experience and perspectives of diverse individuals, groups and communities, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This understanding will support your ability to engage in respectful relationships, and to make ethical, reflective and culturally-sensitive decisions in diverse professional contexts and environments.

In this subject, you will be introduced to mathematical and statistical methods for analysing scientific, business or technical data to inform and support decision-making. You will explore why data is needed and how it is used to make decisions, including how data are collected, analysed, interpreted and presented, and you will learn and apply a suite of common statistical and mathematical methods to generate evidence for decision-making.You will also be introduced to data management software and learn how to represent and communicate mathematical and statistical information effectively. Through data sets relevant to your discipline, you will learn how to problem solve, generate evidence, and present solutions using data handling and statistical approaches.

This subject will provide you with an understanding of how organisations manage the supply chain and logistics processes associated with manufactured and purchased goods, ensuring the successful flow of materials between organisations, external suppliers and customers. The logistics aspects and methodologies you will be exposed to include manufacturing demand planning, inventory and stock control, packaging, warehousing, distribution networks, transportation, value chains and managing supplier relationships. You will also consider how current and future use of technologies and automated processes in the logistics environment can be utilised to achieve logistics and supply chain improvements for the organisation.

Supply Chain and Logistics Management

In this subject you will investigate approaches to design and delivery of projects in industry and other contexts. This will include identifying, analysing and applying relevant concepts, tools and processes used in the formulation, delivery and management of projects. You will consult with stakeholders and external experts as input into your project documentation. Investigations will focus on practical examples and incorporate analysis and design of your own major project throughout the semester. You will develop skills in analysis of project management processes and problem solve to formulate a project utilising a range of tools.

This subject seeks to demystify AI and Big Data for business managers and to engender critical reflection on the unintended consequences and ethical issues for businesses associated with the introduction of these emerging technologies.

Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Applications for Business

This subject covers a range of legal topics relating to the business environment. It combines topics that are necessary for a consideration of business and corporate law including:<ul><li>an introduction to legal systems; </li><li>contract law principles (including breaches and disputes);</li><li>varied business structures, </li><li>the law of agency, competition and consumer law; and </li><li>basic corporate law and governance principles. </li></ul>The subject teaches students how to work through commercial disputes by identifying and addressing the relevant legal issues.
