Students learn how to understand common business contractual terms and implications to develop an appreciation of how contracts are used to allocate risk. Sharpen your understanding of contract law principles. Learn how contracts are formed, negotiated and performed. Explore the circumstances in which a contract can be terminated. Focus particularly on the role of the contract in the business world.

Failure to keep up to date with employment law can lead to fines and other penalties. This course helps prepare you for a career in Employment Relations and Human Resource Management by building the skills necessary to navigate Australia&#39;s legal system. It begins with a review of the foundations of the legal system before examining the system of laws governing employment in contemporary Australia. Through this course, you will develop necessary problem solving skills to use in workplace settings. This course is not available to LAW students unless the student is also enrolled in a Double Degree Program majoring in Employment Relations and where it is undertaken as a compulsory course.Students should not enrol in this subject of they have previously completed 3015EHR Employment Relations Law and 2015EHR Introduction to ER and HR Law at Griffith University.

Introduction to ER and HR Law

This subject covers a range of legal topics relating to the business environment. It combines topics that are necessary for a consideration of business and corporate law including:<ul><li>an introduction to legal systems; </li><li>contract law principles (including breaches and disputes);</li><li>varied business structures, </li><li>the law of agency, competition and consumer law; and </li><li>basic corporate law and governance principles. </li></ul>The subject teaches students how to work through commercial disputes by identifying and addressing the relevant legal issues. These are essential skills for those wishing to work in both the fields of accounting and business management.

In this subject, students will be introduced to the nature and sources of law and regulation in Australia connected to business. Key aspects of Australian business law and their engagement with and influences on business operations are explored. An introduction to important laws related to consumers, contracts, property, business crime, and more. You’ll explore the rules and institutions that govern business and commerce in Australia. Get to know the legal framework within which businesses operate.

This subject was previously known as BLW22.Studying this subject will introduce you to the Australian Taxation System and get you to critically consider the various aspects of the taxation legislation with a focus on Income Tax, Fringe Benefit Tax, Goods and Services Tax and Capital Gains Tax as well as a detailed investigation into the taxing of various tax entities used in Australia. You will be exposed to considering the global aspect of taxation and how foreign companies and individuals are treated for tax purposes in Australia. Being a tax professional is a privileged position but it comes with both social and ethical responsibilities and in this unit we will identify these as well as taking a detailed looked at the various bodies associated with the administration and review of the Australian Taxation System such as the Australia Taxation Office, Inspector General of Taxation and the Tax Practitioners Board.
