This course enables you to apply communication theory and literature on key issues to organisational practices. It covers a comprehensive range of organisational communication theories and their application in various contexts, focusing on understanding and working with diverse individuals. You will explore interpersonal and team communication, intercultural and inter-generational communication, workplace practices, feedback mechanisms in the workplace, oral and visual communication, online communication and social media, negotiation strategies, managing conflict, and persuasion and power dynamics.Through this course, you will develop the skills to effectively navigate and enhance communication within organisations, ensuring productive and harmonious workplace interactions. Communication Skills for the Workplace is a language proficiency support subject designed to develop students’ communication skills in preparation for the Australian and global workplace. Examples of these language skills include vocabulary development, sentence structure, pronunciation and fluency. The subject also aims to develop soft skills that are highly valued in the workplace, such as active listening, teamwork and day-to-day communication skills. This subject also places emphasis on developing an awareness of Australian and global workplace cultures and etiquette. The subject is highly practical in nature. Students will be required to actively participate in all sessions, and assessment tasks require students to engage with each other and their teachers.

Business Communication

This subject is designed to introduce you to the learning, thinking and communication processes you need in order to succeed in your studies as an education undergraduate at Curtin University. Communication Skills for Educators

Using examples from both global studies and domestic politics, this subject examines contemporary ideas and theories about diplomacy, activism, negotiation, leadership and communication in politics and policy-making to equip you with the skills to pursue a range of career avenues. Through a series of action-oriented readings, practical seminars and workshops, you will analyse and discuss different traditions, behaviours and practices in the field of politics. You will be encouraged to reflect upon what you have learned about politics throughout their degree, consolidate their knowledge and skills, and explore their practical applications. The modules in this subject are designed to help you develop real-world skills including include political leadership, political communication (written and visual), diplomacy and negotiation, and activism. You will be assessed over a variety of tasks including the production of a piece of written political communication, a short piece of political analysis, personal reflections and the production of a political campaign.This is a level 3 subject. Please consider the subject pre-requisites before enrolling. This subject includes live sessions with the expectation of student attendance and participation.

Diplomacy, Leadership And Communication

In this subject, you are given the opportunity to increase your knowledge, understanding, and skills in communicating in interpersonal and group settings. The principal aim of this subject is to identify the existing interpersonal skills of students. In addition, it provides an opportunity to develop and practice these skills which are essential when working in health settings. Given that the subject adopts a skills-based orientation, students will be required to attend one weekly 2-hour workshop (either online or face-to-face, depending on subject instance enrolment) which will provide the opportunity to practice effective communication styles, appreciate contextual considerations (e.g., culture), and develop an understanding of the application of interpersonal communication skills in a range of settings (e.g., therapeutic, social, and public health).
