The course is structured around 16 key competencies identified by Engineers Australia as being essential to the graduating engineer, which are broadly grouped into knowledge and skills, application, personal and professional skills.The course is suited to school leavers or those with a trade qualification who are looking to enter the civil construction or manufacturing and production industries in a supervisory, project management or technical role, or progress their careers in these industries to the next level.Foundational core units build knowledge of the practical and technical skills and the processes and philosophy that underpin engineering systems. You’ll then choose a specialisation to build additional knowledge and skills needed to perform technical roles in a range of engineering systems relevant to your specialisation. Finally, you&#39;ll complete project-based units that will develop your skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving. and project management, and additionally complete a total of 30 days (240 hours) of professional placement in industry during your studies, ensuring you are ready to hit the ground running as a graduate.

In previous subjects you have learned about the components making up the structure of a track in the rail corridor, as well as learning about the broad range of other infrastructure within the corridor for which the civil engineer would be responsible. Everything within the corridor had to be built and needs to be maintained, and design of infrastructure is pointless without its eventual construction. This subject is built around a comprehensive and multi-faceted case study in which you will work on interdependent construction projects within an overarching infrastructure development scenario. You will work in a team of colleagues within this subject, because the amount of work involved in each project requires a team effort, but also because all infrastructure construction in the rail industry requires teams drawn from many disciplines. Interaction and collaboration of the teams in this subject is an essential part of the learning and of the assessment. Your participation in and contribution to your team and its project and responsibilities will be closely assessed and will be considered in setting the final grade in this subject.

Railway Construction

This subject focuses on the principles and conventions of measurement in civil engineering projects (i.e. infrastructure construction projects), as well as the measurement of services in both infrastructure and building works. Engineering Measurement

Develop your understanding of the structural design process and geotechnical concepts that will help you work effectively with engineers and other consultants. The course includes two components: sub-structure and super-structure. The emphasis of the super-structure sessions is to familiarise you with analysis and design of structures. In this subject students will be introduced to the types, components and practices of low-rise domestic construction. In this overview of basic constructional materials used in domestic construction students will apply aspects of applied science to relevant building types by examining the properties of matter, wave motion, heat, light and sound). Students will also evaluate solar effects on buildings. Fieldwork is a component of this subject.

This subject was previously known as Architectural Design and Technical Integration Methods.
This subject focuses on application of advanced visual, oral and written techniques required to communicate design ideation and resolved architectural proposition and body of architectural work. The work conducted in this subject supplements the work concurrently being developed in other subjects.
Work Integrated Learning is incorporated developing practice standard presentation and communication skills, culminating in a professional portfolio.
This subject has BAS300 Architecture Design 5 and BAS305 Architecture Methods 5 as mandatory prerequisites. If you have completed BAS300 prior to 2015, you are not required to enrol into BAS305 as BAS300 was previously counted as double subject. Please get a prerequisite waiver from Curtin to proceed with enrolment in BAS335.

This subject was previously known as Architecture Design 2.This subject explores the sense of place and the notion of inhabitation. It explores the built environment as a representation of collective values, investigates the relationship between ideas, human body and built form, and develops an understanding of primary components of space, form, structure and materials. It refers to and uses communication methods taught concurrently in other subjects. This subject requires students to create new structures for inhabitation at a personal scale that engage well with a given landscape, including solar, wind and sound.
