This degree will prepare you to work in these industries, and to contribute to shaping the future in Australia and globally.The Associate Degree of Engineering is designed to meet the requirements for accreditation at the level of Engineering Associate by Engineers Australia. The course is structured around 16 key competencies identified by Engineers Australia as being essential to the graduating engineer, which are broadly grouped into knowledge and skills, application, personal and professional skills.The course is suited to school leavers or those with a trade qualification who are looking to enter the civil construction or manufacturing and production industries in a supervisory, project management or technical role, or progress their careers in these industries to the next level.Foundational core units build knowledge of the practical and technical skills and the processes and philosophy that underpin engineering systems. You’ll then choose a specialisation to build additional knowledge and skills needed to perform technical roles in a range of engineering systems relevant to your specialisation. Finally, you&#39;ll complete project-based units that will develop your skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving. and project management, and additionally complete a total of 30 days (240 hours) of professional placement in industry during your studies, ensuring you are ready to hit the ground running as a graduate.

In previous subjects you have learned about the components making up the structure of a track in the rail corridor, as well as learning about the broad range of other infrastructure within the corridor for which the civil engineer would be responsible. Everything within the corridor had to be built and needs to be maintained, and design of infrastructure is pointless without its eventual construction. This subject is built around a comprehensive and multi-faceted case study in which you will work on interdependent construction projects within an overarching infrastructure development scenario. You will work in a team of colleagues within this subject, because the amount of work involved in each project requires a team effort, but also because all infrastructure construction in the rail industry requires teams drawn from many disciplines. Interaction and collaboration of the teams in this subject is an essential part of the learning and of the assessment. Your participation in and contribution to your team and its project and responsibilities will be closely assessed and will be considered in setting the final grade in this subject.

Railway Construction

This subject focuses on the principles and conventions of measurement in civil engineering projects (i.e. infrastructure construction projects), as well as the measurement of services in both infrastructure and building works. Engineering Measurement

Develop your understanding of the structural design process and geotechnical concepts that will help you work effectively with engineers and other consultants. The course includes two components: sub-structure and super-structure. The emphasis of the super-structure sessions is to familiarise you with analysis and design of structures. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of building surveying scientific principles used in the design and operation of these developments.The course covers the Building Code of Australia Volume 2 and associated Australian Standards, focusing on the design and assessment of residential buildings. You will learn about the requirements for timber-framed and steel-framed residential construction, and gain knowledge of fire safety, energy efficiency, health, and amenity requirements for residential buildings. Additionally, the course addresses bushfire mitigation measures essential for the design and construction of residential buildings. This subject explores how different cultural understandings and models influence and shape how we interpret the world around us, perceive ourselves and relate to other people. Building Cultural Capability

This subject introduces students to sources of law affecting building projects (including the judicial system, common and statute law, contract law, torts and dispute resolution) in relation to the various types of contracts available for project delivery. Students investigate the role of the interior designer within the complexities of a project and what it means to collaborate professionally with consultants, suppliers and clients. Interior Architecture Practice 1

This subject was previously known as Residential Construction.
In this subject students will be introduced to the types, components and practices of low-rise domestic construction. In this overview of basic constructional materials used in domestic construction students will apply aspects of applied science to relevant building types by examining the properties of matter, wave motion, heat, light and sound). Students will also evaluate solar effects on buildings. Fieldwork is a component of this subject.
