This program will examine the relationship between Indigenous concepts of Country, including the impact of colonisation that has impacted on an authenticity to place. Students will gain an understanding of how narratives of the past can articulate a sense of place-creation and place-knowing through exploring storytelling methods across a variety of historical and contemporary mediums. Students will critically analyse contemporary ways of collaborating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, encompassing organisations and communities. This exploration will offer insights, protocols, and practices for achieving culturally responsive engagement. The program delves into the structures and interactions within these communities, examining roles, responsibilities, and connections to Country. Architectural Thesis Project 2

This subject aims to provide students with a minimum 100 hours of relevant practical experience. Architectural Practical Experience

This subject was previously known as Advanced Applied Architectural Systems.Students will explore the applied advanced architectural environmental, technological and construction systems of a complex architectural project with diverse client profile. Students will be required to consider and incorporate multi-layered responses to environmental concerns employing decarbonsing strategies at different scales. Using skills and knowledge’s relating to their understanding of multiple contexts (natural, built and human), students will produce an outcome that will focus on a range of analytical, modelling and testing through methods of research including digital fabrication and making. In doing so they will develop an understanding of the interaction and relationships between key elements of the design, as a means of informing future design decision making processes. Students will be expected to demonstrate technical and architectural language proficiency. This professional practice subject complements other professional practice studies to provide an overview of the skills, knowledge and processes required to establish and operate an architectural practice. The subject examines some of the key considerations in running an architectural business including writing a business plan, managing finances, assessing risk, negotiating contracts, marketing and assuring quality. Architectural Thesis Project 1

This professional practice subject aims to provide a solid introduction to the skills, knowledge and processes required to execute and manage a small-scale architectural project. The subject also examines in detail the responsibilities of a project architect and the role of consultants in the construction industry. Architectural Professional Project Delivery

This subject used to be known as the following two subjects: Integrated Buildings Research Studio and Integrated Buildings Research Methods.This subject focusses on the process of design, developed through industry based projects and requirements. Students will design a small-scale architectural project to a high level of resolution, while addressing statutory planning, building and client requirements. Project will be developed, documented and detailed using architectural communication conventions while maintaining architectural intent. The project may employ digital design and fabrication techniques as a part of the design process. The project will respond to a decarbonised agenda. Best practice exemplars and cases studies will be referred to as a foundation for design. There will be a fieldwork component, the nature of which is dependent upon the focus of research. Praxis Studio

This subject focuses on the conceptualisation, methodological development and design of conceptually and programmatically complex medium to large-scale buildings. A response incorporating decarbonising strategies, sustainable design principles driven by building industry innovation, environmental resiliency and inclusive access is incorporated into the project work. The design process will take account of the project brief, multiple cultural perspectives, knowledge and contexts in the process of design and conceptualisation. Students will develop a critical position that will inform their design process. Complex Buildings Studio

Students will engage with research to understand urban design theories and methods to stimulate thinking about urban possibilities in the context of the climate crisis and a decarbonising agenda focused on sustainable cities and communities. Students will be asked to consider urban histories and strategies incorporating multiple cultural perspectives, knowledge, practices, ecology and context to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. They will also be involved in the exploration, development and demonstration of design skills for urban projects, incorporating: the analysis of urban contexts, understanding the role that urban design projects play in shaping the public domain and the practice of making speculative urban propositions. Urban Design Studio

This subject was previously known as Architectural Culture Research Topics 2.
Students use critical and analytical skills to develop an advanced understanding of themes and concepts relating to the theoretical, historical, social and cultural aspects of architecture and urban environments. Students will be expected to select from a range of research topics not previously studied. A fieldwork component is dependent on the focus of the research.
