This subject aims to expand students’ understanding of holistic accounting gained in their previous core accounting units, to develop and apply their accounting knowledge, skills and terminology in the context of broader notion of accounting that includes accountability and social and environmental accounting. In particular, students are introduced to a number of accounting standards, their broader applications, professional reporting requirements and changes taking place within the accounting environment, particularly with regard to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), sustainability reporting, integrated reporting and integrated thinking. The consideration of the issues, activities and techniques in this subject will enhance the professional and technical skills students will need to perform effectively in the workplace as an accountant.

Financial Accounting and Reporting

TAS-BFA303 is designed to introduce you to the key concepts of auditing and the modern audit practice environment within the Australian professional and legal framework. The subject&#39;s broad aim is to provide you with knowledge of practical auditing from the initial audit planning, the study of internal controls, substantive testing and evidence gathering to the final audit report. You will be introduced to the professional auditing standards, Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants and the audit process and the audit procedures used by external company auditors to provide an opinion on the truth and fairness of financial reports. The objectives of the subject are to advance students’ analytical and decision-making skills by applying auditing theory to practical case studies. A strong emphasis is placed on students&#39; ability to communicate their views in a clear, concise and logical manner.

This subject will help you understand the role that accounting plays in providing accountability. We move beyond introductory accounting and explore the important role that accounting has in organisations, society and the environment.After completing this subject, you will have fundamental management and financial accounting knowledge, tools for analysing organisations’ external reports and a comprehension of how accounting can be used to address social responsibility, ethical conduct and sustainability.This subject allows you to begin the up skilling required by our professional accounting bodies, requiring us to move beyond orthodox/conventional accounting practices and understand our role in accountability.

You will consider the fundamental principles that underpin accrual accounting and financial reporting including how and why financial transactions are recorded as they are. The elements of the accounting cycle and techniques of measurement, recording and reporting for decision-makers are also considered. This subject expands on the role accounting plays in providing accountability. This subject also introduces you to accounting information systems and accounting software.

This subject will introduce students to the very recent changes ushered in by the big data revolution to the accounting profession, introduce students to how data analytics is being applied to accounting data, develop their skills in analysing and presenting accounting data to management and also develop their abilities to critically evaluate the underlying accounting systems and processes related to both the collection, creation, processing and production of accounting data within organisations.
