Frequently asked questions

What is Open Universities Australia (OUA)?

Open Universities Australia is a not-for-profit organisation. We partner with leading universities to make higher education easier for everyone to access.

It doesn’t matter where you live, or what your academic history looks like. Through us, you can enrol in online university courses without entry requirements and access more flexible study opportunities.

How does studying through OUA work?

We bring together thousands of online uni courses in one place. This includes short courses, standalone subjects, undergraduate qualifications and postgraduate qualifications. Our dedicated team of advisors will help you decide on a path and enrol in your preferred course.

Once you enrol, you become a student with your chosen university online. You complete all your coursework through their learning management system.

OUA will continue to support you by simplifying your admin tasks. You’ll use our Student Hub whenever you need to change your enrolment, choose a new subject, or access your results. You can also ask our student advisors for guidance whenever you need it. This eases your mental load, so you can focus on succeeding in your studies.

To learn more, visit how OUA works.

How can you help me enrol in a degree without entry requirements?

We have an arrangement with our partner universities. It means you can get into certain undergraduate degrees through our single subject entry pathway. You don’t need an ATAR or a strong academic history.

To start, simply choose an undergraduate degree that allows entry through single subjects. We’ll then recommend two to four subjects you should complete. Once you successfully pass these subjects, you’ll be accepted into the full degree.

What flexible study options can you unlock for me?

Through us you can:

  • choose from multiple start dates during the year

  • take single subjects without enrolling in a whole degree

  • control your study load by deciding how many subjects you take at once.

And those are only some of the flexible options available. To learn more, visit our study planning page or contact a student advisor.

How much does it cost to study through OUA?

We’re a not-for-profit, so you won’t pay for using our services. You will only pay the fees set by your university.

This cost will depend on a few things, including:

  • what you choose to study

  • whether you claim credit for past work experience

  • your eligibility for government funding loans or subsidies.

All online courses available through OUA can be covered by a government HELP loan. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you won’t have to pay any upfront costs. You will pay back your loan through the tax system when you’re earning a suitable income.

To learn more, visit our fees page or contact a student advisor.

How will OUA's student advisors support me?

They’ll invest the time to understand your goals, interests, and lifestyle needs, so you can confidently decide on a university course.

Ask them to support you with:

  • choosing between courses and universities

  • enrolling and planning your studies

  • submitting forms, letters and documents.

Book a consultation whenever you need their guidance.
