MBA Online study FAQs

What will I learn in an MBA?

An MBA degree in Australia will give you highly regarded leadership skills that will help you level up in your business career.

As well as core subjects covering essential business knowledge, you’ll likely have the opportunity to take electives tailored to your own interests, and gain practical experience through project-based work.

Depending on your specific MBA course, you may cover:

  • core subjects
  • leadership
  • strategy
  • managerial finance and accounting
  • economics
  • marketing and communications
  • governance and operations

Some specialisations include:

  • Design thinking
  • Innovation and leadership
  • Health, ethics, and sustainability
  • Finance, HR and marketing
  • Logistics

You may also have the chance to:

  • Learn from highly respected industry leaders.
  • Gain a global perspective during study tours.
  • Test business solutions in real-world settings.
What are the entry requirements for an MBA?

You will generally need to have a bachelor degree in any discipline to be accepted into an MBA course. You may also need to show English language proficiency and some management experience.

However, if you don’t have an undergraduate degree, but you do have extensive work experience, you could meet the criteria for admission into a Graduate Certificate of Business. Complete just four subjects and you can move into an MBA—and get credit for those subjects too!

In exceptional circumstances, a university may allow you to enrol directly into an MBA if you have considerable management or entrepreneurial experience.

We’ll help find the right entry point for you. Get in touch with a student advisor to ask us more about entry requirements.

How long does an MBA take?

An MBA degree in Australia tends to take between one and two years of full-time study to complete, which involves studying 12-16 units (subjects). Many degrees also offer the ability to study part time.

It’s also worth remembering that you can build your MBA by starting with a shorter postgraduate course, such as a graduate certificate or a graduate diploma, then laddering up to the masters. This also means you can step away from the full MBA if you need to, but still graduate with a respected qualification.

If you’re bringing relevant study or work experience with you to your MBA, you can likely enter with credit and complete your MBA degree even faster.

How hard is an MBA?

An MBA is designed to be challenging. It’s highly regarded in the business world for a reason.

Though, if you already have some professional experience, and you’re ready to apply yourself, you should be equipped to handle the course.

You may like to hear from previous MBA students about how they balanced work and study in their online MBAs.

How do I know which MBA suits me?

There are many options when it comes to MBA degrees in Australia. Luckily, they tend to be highly regarded internationally and are generally more cost-effective than those in countries such as the US.

When choosing, have a look at aspects such as the practical components, industry connections, study flexibility, and elective options offered, so you can best tailor your study to your professional aspirations.

These days, many people opt to study an MBA online as it can easily fit around their existing work and life commitments.

Why should I study an MBA online?

A big reason many people choose an online MBA is the flexibility it allows. Being able to log in from your own location can save you a whole lot of time.

In our highly digital world, studying an MBA online also mirrors the way a lot of us work. You’ll use innovative technology that you’ll no doubt also use in the business world.

You’ll still receive all the benefits of an MBA, such as access to industry leaders and networking with peers. It may even expand your global reach further than you expected.
