About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of auditing practice with depth in audit procedures and apply this to financial statements;
- use a range of cognitive, communication and research skills to investigate, analyse, synthesise and reflect critically on relevant concepts and professional decisions in auditing;
- work collaboratively to plan and execute tasks to enhance professional knowledge and skills and reflect on their own performance in the group setting;
- demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the ethical and legal obligations of the auditor, the societal roles and responsibilities of the auditor;
- apply research skills to undertake a critical literature review; and
- demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the issues associated with sample selection.
- Topics will be available to enrolled students in the subjects Learning Management System site approximately one week prior to the commencement of the teaching period.
Building on your understanding of financial accounting and reporting requirements for organisations of varying complexity, this subject introduces you to the major conceptual and technical aspects of contemporary auditing. Studying this subject, you will explore the societal roles and responsibilities of auditors, including ethical and legal obligations. You will examine professional auditing techniques, learn how to apply these techniques to financial statements, and analyse issues associated with sample selection.
Online Assessment: 3 multiple choice quizzes worth 5% each. 2000 words (or equivalent). Relates to Learning Outcomes 1, 4, 6;
Online Participation: Students must participate/discuss questions each week. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1, 4;
Literature Review: 1500 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 2, 5;
Teamwork Project/Essay: 2000 words. Relates to Learning Outcomes 2, 3;
Final Examination: 2 hrs 15 mins. Students must obtain at least 50% in the examination (and at least 50% overall) to receive a pass or better in the subject. Relates to Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 4, 6.
There is a supervised exam at the end of the teaching period in which you are enrolled. The exam will be offered online with supervision via webcam and screen sharing technology. Coordinated by UNE Exams Unit.
