This subject introduces the concepts of software design and development in the context of computer programming. You will learn how to design, manage, and evaluate projects that solve real-world applied technology problems through industry best practice and design methodologies. You will learn to design and build programs for applied technology using the Python language and how to apply programming practices in industry using concepts such as computational efficiency, coding best practice, interfacing, and documenting.

In this subject, you will learn about the procedural nature of cyber security and the tools defined by the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP). You will analyse the effectiveness of threat and vulnerability mitigation through use of contemporary cyber security frameworks. You will be exposed to mitigation strategies, operational controls and countermeasures needed to address various threats and vulnerabilities. Upon completion of this subject you will be able to apply your cyber security knowledge with the relevant tools and techniques to support and make improvements to business operations.In conjunction with the discipline theory, this subject builds on concepts of learning through practice in Year 1 of study by introducing you to more complex learning experiences. The impact of new technology and its ethical implications will be explored through industry case studies. The subject explores the foundations of risk across many industries and disciplines, examining the risk analysis process, contingency planning, business continuity and disaster recovery. By exploring the implications of current incidents in areas such as security, manufacturing, transportation, construction, and primary and secondary industries, students will gain insight into strategic and tactical decision making to avoid harm. You will be introduced to:- discipline-based skills and knowledge in dynamic practice situations. The subject will be practical task focused and allow you to explore the penetration testing process from inception to completion with a focus on three key areas: legal and ethical considerations; conducting simulated penetration testing; and reporting findings.This subject builds on concepts of learning through practice in Year 1 of study by introducing you to more complex learning experiences. You will be introduced to discipline-based skills and knowledge in dynamic practice situations. Offensive Cyber Security and Penetration Testing

This subject introduces you to the concept of information security and the legal and ethical considerations that organisations and individuals must address to implement sound information security. The subject focusses on industry best practice within the context of securing, storing, and sharing information and will explore the complex nature of information security, contextualising it within the threats that exist within our local and global environments.This subject offers students the foundational knowledge required to function as an information security practitioner across a range of industries and levels, including government and the public sector. This subject also introduces learning through practice by exposing you to authentic learning experiences. These experiences are placed at the centre of learning and assessment, so you have the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary to respond to industry, community and/or global needs.  You will be introduced to:  1. As a result, new business models in Industry 4.0 have emerged. In this subject you will be introduced to key concepts, principles and practices that relate to designing for technology and innovation. You will examine approaches that drive digital innovation, through applying design thinking, user experience and other contemporary methods for exploring problems and opportunities. In addition, you will investigate how digital transformation is a collaborative and creative process that enables for opportunities in the digital economy. You will therefore learn how to use design thinking tools and techniques and other human-centred approaches to identify, analyse and develop innovative approaches and transformational solutions. Designing for Technology and Innovation

In this subject you will learn about three key areas of data analytics in cyber security. Using a series of tools to develop your cyber security analytical tool kit, you will begin by conducting basic data analysis using Excel and build an analytical dashboard in Excel which will allow you to dynamically update the dashboard based on the dataset entered. With these skills you will then transition to network data analytics for threat hunting and incident response, culminating in an assessment on post-infection threat analysis. Finally, you will undertake active network monitoring and analysis using cutting edge industry tools, that will form your final assessment. The progression of practical skill development in this subject will add progressive complexity to your understanding of data analytics scoped to cyber security and align with a Security Operations Centre (SOC) analyst&#39;s role.

In this subject, you will learn how computer networks are constructed, how they work, and how modern applications use the services provided by modern computer networks. The concept of protocol layering will be explored to learn how computer networks operate, using the OSI Model and TCIP/IP protocol suite as examples, including an examination of the functionality and protocols provided by the different layers of these systems. You will use this information to design a network to industry specifications.This subject also incorporates learning through practice by exposing you to authentic learning experiences. In this subject, you will be introduced to mathematical and statistical methods for analysing scientific, business or technical data to inform and support decision-making. You will explore why data is needed and how it is used to make decisions, including how data are collected, analysed, interpreted and presented, and you will learn and apply a suite of common statistical and mathematical methods to generate evidence for decision-making.You will also be introduced to data management software and learn how to represent and communicate mathematical and statistical information effectively. Through case studies relevant to your discipline, you will learn how to problem solve, generate evidence, and present solutions using data handling and statistical approaches.
